Oh the wires, oh the tangles, oh what a sight!
A closet of chaos, a bundle of fright!
With cables all crisscrossed, twisted and tight—
It flickered with madness both morning and night.

But then came a plan (with a grin, oh so wide),
“With Velcro! With routing! With patience and pride!
We’ll tame every cable, we’ll line them just right—
And bring back some order to this dreadful plight!”

They bundled! They routed! They tucked them away!
They labeled and looped in a methodical way!
Each cord found a purpose, each line found its lane—
No more was the closet a spaghetti domain!

Now look at it shine! Oh so tidy, so slick!
No more cable chaos, no more frantic quick-fix!
The airflow is happy, the devices can breathe—
No snarls to untangle, no knots to unweave!

And best of all, hear this—no struggle, no roar—
With a gentle click-click… you can now shut the door! 😄

Added a wired Ring video doorbell. start to finish , Started by removing the 3 seperate switches and added a single gang with 3 switches and 2 blanks creating room for the transfomer. drilled a hole for the doorbell wire and mounted the Ring Video doorbell. Put it all together with the wireless chime.

“No one’s ever gonna roll up to the Louvre with a truck and a ladder to break in through the second floor to steal $100 million worth of crown jewels…”

Did the Louvre security team ever sit down and say, “What if someone brings a ladder and skips the most hardened entrance?”

It appears not.

Even worse:

-"The surveillance camera pointed the wrong way allowed Louvre heist"
-"The security plans had instead been focused in recent years on protecting artwork from soup or paint throwing activists"
"Ms. des Cars said she had boosted safety and security staff by 41 full-time positions"

This whole embarrassing story has some good adjacencies to cybersecurity (with the same kind of blind spots that never got threat modeled).

Examples:

-“No one will attack the smart fish tank thermometer” (they did... and owned a casino)

-“We’re too small for attackers to care” (they do, because easy targets mean low effort and quick wins)

-“We’ve got MFA in front of that app, so we’re fine” (until a supply chain attack causes a breach)

-“EDR in dev? Nah, attackers don’t care about non-prod” (they do, because it’s often the weakest link)

‼️ MORAL OF THE STORY: THREAT MODELING MATTERS. ‼️

That random IoT device sitting on the same network as your critical systems? It’s in play. And it’s probably unmonitored and can’t run EDR.

The forgotten 'dev server' that was never documented but still exposed to the internet via RDP? Yup, it'll probably get hacked

That old LLMNR protocol that’s still enabled? Yup, definitely in scope.

Attackers don’t think in terms of what’s reasonable. They think in terms of what’s possible.

And if the Louvre can get robbed of over $100 million of crown jewels by a truck, ladder, and a poorly aimed camera - what’s the obvious gap in your environment you’ve convinced yourself doesn’t matter?
