In 1856, cabinetmaker James W. Rodgers set up shop for himself. He soon added to his skillset and expanded into furniture manufacturing. His company became a widely recognized symbol of fine furniture across Texas and throughout the Southwest.

After Rodgers’ death in 1891, his four sons inherited the business. They decided to bring on a new partner in 1894: fellow furnituremaker John William Wade. They renamed their enterprise the Rodgers-Wade (RW) Furniture Company.

In the 130 years since we officially became Rodgers Wade, we’ve navigated changes in ownership and market demands. The name Rodgers Wade is now synonymous with retail fixtures, state-of-the-art brand environments, custom architectural millwork, and casework. But one thing has never changed: our commitment to our craft.

This Thursday, we’re throwing things back to a time before every home had a refrigerator. Instead, households stored perishable items in pieces of furniture called pie chests, kitchen safes, or pie safes.

Rodgers Wade built this particular pie safe in the early 1900s. It belonged to Bertie Stocks, who eventually passed it down to her grandson, Jeff Stocks, and his wife, Melissa Smith Stocks. Jeff and Melissa have stripped and waxed the piece to modernize it and keep it in good condition.

We’re so glad that this example of our company’s woodworking skills and commitment to craftsmanship has endured for so many years. Thank you to Jeff and Melissa for helping to look after our legacy!

⚙️ Mill Machine Operator ⚙️

Primary responsibilities:
✅ Set up and operate one primary assigned millwork machine and one secondary millwork machine.
✅ Surface, cut, and shape wood-based raw materials.
✅ Fabricate wood parts for fixtures, cabinets, doors, walls, trim, tables, etc.
✅ Conduct basic troubleshooting and performs minimal routine machine preventive maintenance.

Qualifications:
✅ High school diploma or GED.
✅ 6 months to 3 years of related experience.
✅ Ability to read cutting instruction sheets, interpret drawings, and read a tape measure.
✅ CNC experience preferred.
