This is copied from a post on the effectiveness of magnetic blankets. 👇👇👇
Static magnets have to sit on the acupuncture points to be effective, so correct sizing with these blankets are important. Also having a company that is actually putting magnets on points and not just scattering them about is important. This therapy comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) where sometimes we use other things besides needling a point to get desired results. When the points are stimulated, you can help correct polarity, blood flow and stimulate points that help correct imbalance in organs. You can find magnetic pellets that can be taped on the body, dowels with magnetic ends, and magnets sewn into clothing.
Each acupuncture point connects to an organ but also to the "electrical system" of the body. So let's think of the body like a house. When we get too much power to an area, it blows the breakers. Too little power doesn't give us enough juice to use our appliances. You can look at acupuncture like an electrician coming in to balance the amount of electricity running through the house so we don't have too much or too little, that way our works correctly. If you need a Western Medicine definition of why acupuncture works, it's because the points also connect along the fascia lines, which science has proven exist through dissections, and it was waaaayy too far in my career of studying both before I realized I was studying the same thing in two different perspectives. 🤷♀️🤦♀️
Now back to the question of magnetic blankets. Yes, there is some benefit if the magnets are on the correlating points. In the same way your body would benefit from visiting a location where the Earth's magnetic current is slightly stronger. I would ask any manufacturer for their research of where the magnets come from, what their quality is, and what points they are placed on. Challenge their sales reps and see if they actually understand their products or if they're just pushing a sale.
I know this is getting long, but I'll add a few bullet points:
👉 Static magnets MUST be in contact with the skin to be effective. If the magnet isn't touching the body, it will not work. Period.
I did a video on this that can be found on the Superior Therapy page.
👉 Magnetic blankets will never be as effective as PEMF which uses a static magnet that is enhanced by electricity running through copper wire to expand that magnetic current up to 18 inches (depending on brand) to cover a larger area and pe*****te deeper into the body without needing to stimulate individual acupuncture points. Magnetic blankets are more affordable than PEMF so that is why they are a great option for owners on a budget.
I have also found that horses that are used to PEMF don't seem to respond as well to static magnets which is why I didn't keep magnet blankets after I bought my PEMF blankets.
👉 Acupuncture points can only take so much stimulation, so your horses living 24/7 in magnetic gear isn't as effective as you're thinking. My instructor would tell people to pull off their magnetic pellets he applied after 4 to 8 hours depending on what he was working on. Again you are making corrections in the "electrical system" of the body. So the relaxation should continue after you take the blanket off because you're addressing the body from a systemic level. If you pull your blanket off and your horse goes back to being chaotic, you are just putting a bandaid on a problem that has a root cause that needs to be further explored.
👉 Some companies mix in copper or ceramic therapies in with their fabric for additional benefits. These therapies also have value, but probably need their own posts.
👉 You will run into all kinds of science saying therapy products work and don't work. In the same way we have people that are very holistic minded and people that refuse to think their perspective in life has anything to do with the health of the body. I specifically live in an area of the world with a documented stronger magnetic current, because I needed that to work on some things within my body. I watch "experts" argue daily about if there is anything special or not. Science will always be able to find proof for and against an argument. That's why it's important for us to listen to what our own bodies respond to.
Unlike humans, horses don't have a placebo effect so you can easily find what works or doesn't work by testing variables.
Are these blankets a cure all? Absolutely not. Do they help the body? In my experience, yes. Do you research. Ask questions. Test variables. Learn as much as you can.
