I had a client with a 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 Elevation Crew Cab with damage repair cost at $18,038. The insurance company offered zero in Diminished Value. We said, well we’ll just see about that. We researched the background of the vehicle, examined the repair details, looked into recent examples in the market with known damage histories and constructed a certified DV appraisal proving over $9,000.00 in loss value. That’s a long way from zero! Over 90% of consumers have no clue they are even entitled to this if they are the victims in a motor vehicle accident. Don’t be part of that 90% uninformed group, call Randy with Collision Consulting at 410.355.5500, for a free consultation if someone hit your vehicle and learn if your eligible for Diminished Value on your loss.

A good customer had a total loss dispute with their 2012 Ford F 350 Diesel truck. Seems the at fault carrier only offered 10k for the value of the truck. We were hired and after careful research and drafting a certified appraisal for the real value of $21,700.00, a settlement was reached at $18,550.00. That’s a $8,550.00 better day for the client. They are very happy and you can be too! Call Collision Consulting with any appraisal needs for a free consultation, ask for Randy at 410.355.5500.

An Arizona client called with a total loss of a 05’ Toyota Sequoia ( yes, an OLD one, that’s how good these vehicles are) Mr. Ins. Co. Offered a measly $6,065.00. Well, we rolled up our sleeves and after our research, our Fair Market Value certified appraisal, and a short discussion with their appraiser, we reached a settlement of $13,500.00!, I’ll say that again, we were able to get $13,500.00, or more than double the original offer. How is that for results? Call Collision Consulting at 410.355.5500 and speak to Randy about any auto appraisal questions you have regarding a Total Loss, Diminished Value, or any other auto appraisals you can think of, maybe we can roll up our sleeves for you too.

Total Loss lesson # 5, Insurance companies are now using AI for their total loss offers! It affects you by making the offers even more lowballed. Be careful because the information is mass controlled by the carriers and can result in more inaccuracy’s with regards to vehicle features and options which will dramatically affect the base offer of the vehicle. Call Randy at the original Collision Consulting 410.355.5500 for more details on how to protect yourself from the insurance company assault on your vehicle value.

Total loss lesson #4, this is a simple one folks, and I’m not trying to throw any collision shops under the bus here first and foremost, with that said, sometimes vehicles can be unfairly labeled as a total loss for a variety of reasons such as , the shop doesn’t want the job because they are too busy, the vehicle is too old for the shops typical job profile, anticipation of parts delays tying up shop bays, all resulting in a decision to write it off as a total loss to get it out of the way. The solution is to always get another opinion about whether it’s a true total loss or not. Most shops will do this, you may have to pay a tow bill to move it elsewhere but that’s a cheap expense if your upside down in your vehicle loan, don’t have gap insurance or simply don’t want to lose your vehicle. Call the original Collision Consulting and ask for Randy at 410.355.5500 if you have any questions about your rights in a total loss situation.

Total Loss Lesson #3- most people believe that an insurance company will only declare a vehicle a total loss when the repairs reach a pre determined percentage of value such as 75%, this is not true and actually quite confusing. Here is how it works, in Md. for instance, insurance companies MUST declare a vehicle totaled at 75% or higher of damage to cash value( pre loss value), but they can elect to declare a total loss at any damage under 75% that they want. It’s not common but can happen, and the vehicle owner has NO say in the matter. Imagine losing your vehicle and not having any control over the decision! Collision Consulting can help with all of the issues when negotiating a total loss , starting with a free review of your claim to see if you should consider expert help in the matter. If the offer is close to what it should be, we will tell you at no charge. If it’s not a good offer, we will tell you that too with no pressure or obligation to use us if an appraisal is deemed necessary. Call Randy at Collision Consulting today at 410.355.5500 if you have any questions about any auto accident assistance and tell your friends, we can help them too.

Total Loss Lesson #1- Let’s say your car is damaged and declared a Total Loss. What now? There are a few things that you need to know.
First, the offer you received from the insurance company IS NEGOTIABLE! The carrier will make you a lowball offer to see what you do. A lot of people mistakenly think they must accept whatever is offered and they can’t dispute it. That is wrong!! You absolutely can refuse the offer and make a counter offer that you think is more accurate and acceptable.
Lesson #2- The amount of the offer can be a determining factor of whether your vehicle is declared a total loss. For example, let’s say they lowball you by 10%, which happens more than you think. That means that the 75% threshold at which a vehicle MUST be totaled is a lower dollar amount than it should have been. And if it would have been fairly valued, it may not have been a total loss at all! Imagine this scenario- you’ve been told by the insurance company that your car is totaled. You don’t want to lose your car because 1) you love it 2) it’s paid off and you don’t want/can’t afford a new car payment or 3) you still owe money on your loan. But now you’re being forced to get a new ride all because the value was wrong and caused them to mistakenly total your car in the first place. Now they’ve ripped you off in 2 ways- the money you don’t have because of the lowball offer AND now you may need to pay additional money out of pocket for the new vehicle you likely didn’t need.

Total loss offer. The owner called us concerned that his insurance company was totaling his car and that their offer seemed extremely low. He was very frustrated and he didn’t know what to do. We told him that we offer FREE total loss reviews. If the offer is a fair offer, we will say so. If the offer is low by a significant amount, we can provide a true Fair Market Value Prior to Loss appraisal for a flat fee of $395.00.
It turned out their offer was over $5,000 low!! We supplied the actual value appraisal, helped him through the Appraisal Clause process and he was able to collect an additional $4,600.00 above the original offer!
That’s what a simple phone call to Randy at 410.355.5500 can do for you!!
Don’t be fooled by copycat companies with similar names… make sure you’re calling the original Collision Consulting.
