Effective January 1, 2027, the AMA will retire the global obstetric billing model and transition to a phase-based approach for reporting maternity care. Instead of a single bundled code, services will be billed separately for:

· Antepartum care
· Labor management
· Delivery
· Postpartum care

These changes will increase the importance of accurate documentation to support reported services and the providers who performed them.
