Another one built from the ground up. 🤘

This customer wanted to add a carport beside a driveway we previously built and recently refreshed, so we gave her a little more than just the footprint.

We built a 15' × 32' gravel pad, including an extended approach to give her plenty of room to transition off the driveway and pull comfortably under the future carport.

Excavated down to solid ground, built a limestone base, topped it with DGA, shaped everything to drain properly, and compacted it tight.

The goal wasn't just somewhere to set a carport. It was to make the new pad look and function like it had always been part of the driveway.

Half road. Half ditch. That was pretty much what we started with. 😳

Years of water running down this steep section had taken its toll. The edge had washed away, the base was exposed, and in several areas nearly half of the usable roadway had essentially become part of the drainage ditch.

This one needed more than a fresh layer of gravel.

We rebuilt and stabilized the damaged areas with heavy limestone, restored the roadway profile, reshaped the surface to get water off the road instead of down it, then finished it with DGA and vibratory compaction.

The result is a solid, crowned driving surface with reinforced edges and a defined path for stormwater to travel without taking the driveway with it.

A gravel road will tell you exactly what’s wrong with it. You just have to know how to read it. Dirt Don't Lie.

THIS is why I preach the Rock Solid Method.

We finished this driveway Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

Tuesday night, the storms rolled in. Then it rained and stormed through Wednesday. In less than 48 hours after we finished this driveway, the exact job location received 2.82 inches of rain.

And this wasn't some gentle summer shower.

This storm system caused major flooding across the region. Roads were underwater. Communities dealt with flash flooding. Parts of Indiana received incredible amounts of rain, and floodwater even washed away part of the road surface on I-70 near Centerville.

So today I drove back by this driveway for one reason:

I wanted to see what happened.

These pictures are what I found.

No washouts.
No ruts running down the driveway.
No stone scattered across the yard.
No failed edges.
No channels cut through the surface.

Nothing.

The little bit of standing water you can see beside the driveway isn't driveway failure either. That's an existing rut in the yard from vehicle traffic that wasn't part of our project.

This driveway got hammered by Mother Nature almost immediately after we finished it, and it held.

That's why we don't believe driveway repair means spreading a little fresh gravel over the top and making it pretty for pictures.

We reclaim it.
We reshape it.
We establish the proper profile.
We add the right material where it's needed.
And we COMPACT it.

Anybody can make a gravel driveway look good on the day they finish it.

The real test is what it looks like after the storm.

At first glance, this looks like a perfectly good gravel driveway.

The real problem isn't the gravel. It's the water.

Most people think this driveway needs gravel.

It doesn't.

It needs water management.

This driveway is actually in great shape, but over the years stormwater has slowly washed away the downhill shoulder, filled culverts with sediment, and started eating away at the edges.

Our plan isn't to simply spread more gravel.

✔️ Install a new catch basin and cross drain to intercept roof and surface runoff.

✔️ Restore and armor the existing culvert inlets and outlets with properly placed riprap.

✔️ Reinforce nearly 100 feet of the downhill shoulder with a keyed riprap foundation to stabilize the edge and reclaim usable driveway width.

✔️ Finish with our Rock Solid Method (RSM) driveway refresh to restore the surface and protect the investment.

Around here we believe in solving the problem, not covering up the symptoms.

Well... this one's a new one.

We've got the customers.
We've got the equipment.
We've got the weather.
We've got the fuel.

What we DON'T have is enough #3 stone. 🤦‍♂️

Apparently somebody out there is eating all the rock before the rest of us contractors can get to it.

So if your project is delayed a little, it's not because we're hiding from work. Trust me... we'd rather be making dust than making phone calls trying to find limestone.

The good news?
As soon as the quarry catches up, we'll be right back at it.
