Keeping the room cool and dark is best for getting a good night’s sleep- for you and your baby!

Our sleep/wake rhythms are influenced by light, so dimming the lights an hour before bed will send a message to the brain that it is time to start winding down.

Keeping the room cool reinforces the signals sent to the brain that it is time for bed. Our bodies naturally lower in temperature when we sleep-so sleeping in a warm room would inhibit our bodies and take us much longer to fall asleep!

Sleep Props are totally normal. Even adults have them.

If you are familiar with REM cycles, babies tend to cycle through REM quickly during the night. Which means they are in a state of light sleep and could easily be woken up. If that happens (maybe Baby has a cough and wakes up), a sleep prop could become quite an issue here. So, to teach a baby to self-sooth and not depend on those sleep props simply means that the baby is able to put himself back to sleep, even if he wakes during the night!
