TAKING THE LAST LAP…reflections from a proud dad

You blink and a four-year college journey is coming to an end.

This past weekend was spent with our daughter Jenna and her closest friends and parents at Clemson University.

What a ride it’s been, and we’re so grateful for all her experiences and great friendships that have been built along the way.

I’ve always pushed for “getting the entire experience” at college, and looking back I’d say mission accomplished for her!

One of the most memorable parts of this weekend was reminiscing – Maureen, Jenna and I walked the campus on Sunday (in the rain) and made stops at all the points along the admitted students tour and freshman move-in.

From this point forward, we’ll enjoy the rest of what Senior Year brings and all the great things to come post graduation.

Make the most of every moment and spend the time on the stuff that matters!

I'm proud and excited to be joining the Buccino Leadership Institute at Seton Hall University as an Advisory Council member this Fall

I have an opportunity to help shape future leaders, who have been specially nominated across Seton Hall University’s programs.

DON’T LET THE CIRCUMSTANCES DICTATE THE OUTCOME…

During my experience as a winning contestant on the Wheel of Fortune, I hit MANY speed bumps – like FOUR bankrupts!

Yet, I was able to overcome these challenges.

It was because of my mindset and preparation.

Each time I hit bankrupt, I reminded myself of the three points I wrote in my journal beforehand:

👍 I’m prepared
👍 I have the tools
👍 I expect to win!

I didn’t let the circumstances consume me and distract me from getting the result I wanted.

That was just a game, but it applies just the same in life, right?

🔥 Adversity is certain – it’s how we handle it that determines the outcome.

➡️ So when faced with adversity, how do you show up?!

THE LEGACY “CONTINUUM” – rear view and forward looking

Serving others and making a real difference in their lives is a mindset and a purpose that translates to fulfillment.

These pictures have so much significance to me – they are separated by about 15 years.

In the earlier photo, I didn’t have nearly the same focus on my legacy as I do now.

Over time and up to today, it is at the center of how I think and what I do, with a focus on these two questions:

1) How can I make a difference?
2) What more can I do to have a positive and lasting impact on all those who I care for?

What started as supporting our children with school, sports, dance, music, martial arts and other interests, has turned into “adult” conversations:

…with our twins about college internships to plan for their future careers

…with our youngest HS senior about supporting her future at Lynn University sports management program while also playing women’s lacrosse.

I’m sure many of the parents reading this can totally relate…

Professionally, having pivoted through three career transitions into exciting new chapters, I’ve realized the common thread for all of them is a very similar focus:

helping other people
