Do you know the true financial health of your business, right now? Too often, business owners wait until the end of a quarter or end of the year to get a clear picture. By then, it could be too late to make
the changes needed to have a successful year.

Here are two actions we recommend to help our consulting clients stay on top of their financials:
1. Reconcile your books on a monthly basis. This allows you to adjust your direction quickly as you spot negative trends or emerging problems.
2. Be precise: Your numbers are only as good as the data you put in. Adjust your financials for depreciation, taxes and accrued or prepaid expenses on a monthly basis.

Knowing how your financial progress is trending is critical to your business success. Next week, we will drill down further and talk about how to use key indicators to do a weekly evaluation of your business performance.

What are you tolerating in your business? It may a be a customer who's costing you too much money and time, a toxic employee, a salesperson who is not doing the job or a host of other issues.

We often bury the stuff that we're tolerating. It's easier to rationalize that it's not really that bad or you'll deal with it later. Yet those nagging tolerations keep eating away at you and damaging your business.

Instead of just settling for the way things are, it's time to ask these tough questions!
1. What's really not going the way you want?
2. What needs to change?
3. What actions do you need to take to solve the problem?

When you get rid of the things you're tolerating, your business will run better. Equally important, you will feel like a burden has lifted off your shoulders.
