Appreciation to Madame Ambassador Rachna Korhonen🇺🇸🇲🇱
As Her Excellency Ambassador Rachna Korhonen concludes her mission as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Mali, I want to express my sincere gratitude and admiration for the remarkable impact she has made during her tenure.
Having been engaged in U.S.–Mali relations for many years, I've witnessed different chapters in the relationship between our two countries. Ambassador Korhonen’s tenure stands out for something particularly important: her ability to connect diplomacy with people.
She engaged with communities, entrepreneurs, civil society, government leaders, the private sector, and the Malian diaspora. She listened. She showed up. And she consistently encouraged stronger connections between Americans and Malians.
What has struck me most as her mission comes to an end is the outpouring of appreciation from Malians themselves. Across socials, so many people have shared photographs, memories, and messages recognizing her work. That kind of recognition cannot be manufactured. It is earned through presence, relationships, and genuine engagement.
I am personally grateful for the respect and openness she has shown toward those of us working to strengthen bilateral trade, investment, diaspora engagement, and people-to-people relationships between the United States and Mali.
Diplomatic assignments eventually end, but meaningful relationships between nations are built by people—and those relationships can endure long after an official mandate is completed.
Ambassador Korhonen, you may be leaving Mali, but the relationships, goodwill, and memories you created will remain.
Thank you for your service to U.S.–Mali relations and for the bridges you helped build. I wish you and your family tremendous success and happiness in this next chapter, and I look forward to staying connected here in the United States.
Congratulations on a truly impactful mission, Your Excellency.
