Last year, we introduced IN THE BLACK to #1 B2B MJ Conference MJBizCon + News Source MJBizDaily MJBizCon.

It was our beginning. And it was incredible.

This year, we’re coming back sharpened, laser focused, and clear about what we’re building.

Because there comes a point when being in the room is not enough.

We have to start building beyond the noise.

What does it look like when Black and Brown people in cannabis have a space to show up as their full selves?

To exchange knowledge without posturing.

To ask the questions they actually need answered.

To celebrate each other without competition.

To make introductions.

To share resources.

To amplify the people doing the work.

To create room for the people coming behind us.

To build relationships that exist beyond the conference, beyond the photo, and beyond the moment.

That’s the kind of community we’re interested in.

IN THE BLACK is our space to practice it.

On December 2, we’re bringing that energy back to MJBizCon with an experience built around culture, conversation, hospitality, knowledge, and connection.

Good food.
Good people.
Real conversations.
People who know things.
People who need things.
People who can connect the two.

And space to talk about where cannabis goes next, including the global and Indigenous communities whose access, knowledge, ownership, and participation deserve to be part of that conversation.

is officially growing.

Lexington’s first medical ma*****na cultivation facility is now open, bringing the state to 39 operating medical ma*****na businesses. Governor Andy Beshear was there for the ribbon cutting, calling Kentucky’s medical ma*****na program a success.

And while we celebrate access expanding, we’re also paying attention to who is positioned to participate in the industry being built.

New markets mean new opportunities for entrepreneurs, workers, cultivators, retailers, advocates, and communities.

The question is no longer whether cannabis is becoming an established industry.

The question is who gets to build wealth from it.

I’ve been thinking about edibles differently lately.

Not “start low and go slow.” We know that.

I mean: what if we fundamentally misunderstand what a dose actually is?

With smoking, consumption is usually a feedback loop.

You consume.
You feel something.
You decide whether to continue.

But an edible is different.

You make a decision now, without knowing what that decision will fully feel like later.

And if you don’t feel anything and take more, you’re making a second decision before you even know the outcome of the first.

So maybe an edible dose isn’t just a quantity.

Maybe it’s a commitment to an unknown future state.

That’s what makes the conversation around milligrams so interesting to me.

We’ve built a lot of cannabis education around quantity:

How many milligrams?
What’s your tolerance?
How much should you take?

But edibles require us to understand something else, too:

Delayed consequences.

Because the experience doesn’t begin when you feel high.

Something has already begun.

Your body is processing the edible. Time is passing. An outcome is developing, even if, from your perspective, absolutely nothing seems to be happening.

And maybe that’s the part of edible consumption we haven’t really developed the language for.

A milligram measures what’s in the product. It doesn’t measure when, or how, the experience will arrive.

What if dosage literacy is really time literacy?

And as cannabis becomes more normalized, maybe we need to spend less time teaching people simply how much to consume and more time helping them understand what it means to make a decision whose full consequences they won’t experience until later.
