I know it’s not just me….. This year has been tragic to watch as more than 305K employees have been laid off (Forbes).

I know this feeling, and have no doubt employees across various industries have been extremely stressed, wondering, “Will I be next?” “Is my company impacted too?”

Layoffs are not fun, in fact, they can turn your whole life upside down. Remember this - you can’t control the outcome, only what you choose to do next. Here are few dos and don’ts:

1) Don’t apply for a massive number of jobs – name a person this has worked for and change my mind. Tap into the “hidden job market” – YouTube has loads of info on this!

2) Kick basic networking to the curb and explore/research ways to actually stand out (recruiters are human and can only respond to so many, “I like your posts, could you please pass my resume to the hiring manager?”). Whether you’re offering value in your networking approach or showcasing a high-value personal brand, each approach includes VALUE!

3) Fine tune your search, resume, target employer list, personal brand, LinkedIn page, messaging, etc. MANY people have transferrable skills, MANY people could technically do more than one role, and MANY people have multiple interests; however, you cannot afford to be positioned as a Generalist or Jack/Jill of All Trades.

4) Invest before it’s too late. Don’t deplete your resources before you decide to invest in a resume writer or career coach. You must understand that competition is at an all-time high – look it up, it’s true! Consider starting your process with a competitive edge by investing into your future before spending endless hours on the job search to no end.

🔍 Minnesota Introduces Salary History Ban

Starting January 1, 2024, Minnesota will enforce a new law prohibiting employers from inquiring about a candidate's salary history during the hiring process. This is great news for residents, along with the 18 other states that have enacted similar legislation! Here's why >

1️⃣ Less Stress! Candidates can now engage in interviews without the burden of sharing salary history. They will avoid feeling pressured to lie, share competitive employer info, or divulge their history of being underpaid.

2️⃣ Equal Opportunities! The law aims to eliminate practices justifying lower compensation based on past earnings. It helps avoid offering lower pay, just becauase a previous employer paid lower based on a class of discrimination.

3️⃣ Statistical Impact: Studies, such as the one from Boston University School of Law, suggest an 8% increase in pay for women and a 13% increase for African American workers in states with similar laws.

Welcome back to 𝕭𝖎𝖇𝖑𝖎𝖈𝖆𝖑 𝕭𝖑𝖚𝖊𝖕𝖗𝖎𝖓𝖙𝖘✝️ Stay tuned for faith-fueled career tips straight from the Word.

𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟮 - 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 | Proverbs 15:22 (NLT) reminds us, "𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗴𝗼 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲; 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀."

The key phrase is “PLANS GO WRONG” – don’t let the enemy fool you into believing you’re in this alone.

When we ask the Almighty for resources, divine guidance is available to us.

The Bible showers us with multitudes of scripture about looking to God and to others for help (see Proverbs 3:5-6).

For this blueprint, I’m recommending Facebook or LinkedIn groups as a resource for support and potentially a new role as well. Here’s the rundown:

1️⃣ Networking Opportunities: Joining industry-specific Facebook groups can help you connect with professionals who share your passion and can become key allies on your behalf.

Just like Proverbs says, seek advice, share your experiences, and ask questions.

2️⃣ Job Postings: Recruiters use these tools to post jobs, so be sure to switch notifications “on” so you don’t miss a listing.

3️⃣ Information Sharing: These groups are treasure troves of insights. You'll often find discussions on industry trends, interview strategies, and resume tips.

4️⃣ Skill Development: Some groups offer valuable resources like webinars and courses to help you enhance your skill set.

Whatever your path, and however you choose to build your skills or search for jobs, reflect on Colossians 3:23 (NIV), "𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼, 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁, 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗱, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀."

When the Ark of the Lord returned to Jerusalem after being held by the Philistines, King David danced and celebrated in the streets. His wife was disgusted by his zealousness and reprimanded him. He responded, "𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗲𝘆𝗲𝘀."🕺

Whether you're job searching, interviewing, or seeking a promotion, – remember to always seek the Lord first, even if it seems "undignified."

King David started as a shepherd and, through FAITH and COURAGE, 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 $𝟭𝟮𝟱𝗧 (𝗬𝗲𝘀, 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱'𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗱!💰💼

The Bible says about David, "The Lord has sought out a man after his own heart." Imagine what God will do for you when you truly seek Him and trust His ability to provide🙏

She doesn’t believe in 9-5 | He feels like he’s being overlooked because he doesn’t have a degree | She feels burnt out on the job-hunting process | He feels like he’s failing his family | She wants to be treated equally in the workplace | He got passed up for a promotion over someone younger | She got laid off after 3 months | He felt scrutinized by a micromanager

In the moment, these feelings can be all consuming – but 5 years from now, they may seem insignificant. When these thoughts crowd your mind, look at what you can control:

1) Quality of your job applications (Customizing your resume, cover letters, and communications to hiring managers) 🎯
2) Networking 💭
3) Interview preparation and the way you carry yourself (enthusiasm, confidence, grace) ✏️
4) Trainings, certifications, or education you work towards 💡
5) Prayers and faith towards God ✝️

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 (on your resume/LinkedIn profile) and who you want to help you during this next season of life. Someone who appreciates your efforts, takes time to get to know you/your goals, and is honest about whether or not they will be a good fit to partner with makes all the difference (I have turned people down in certain industries or who already have great resumes and just need a few tips to improve it).

𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Have you ever taken a sip of a drink, only to find it's not what you expected, and your reaction is a mix of surprise and bewilderment? Starting a new job can sometimes feel just like that! 🥤

Sometimes people land roles that are quite different from what they envisioned. Perhaps the job description was faulty, the leadership team was not honest about what to expect, or maybe you just didn’t jive with the team or culture. If you find yourself in this situation, it might be time to start working on your exit strategy:

1) If your tenure is brief (3 months or less), and the experience isn't adding significant value to your resume, you don't have to list it. In interviews, share your insights if the topic arises, but remember, brevity is key.
2) Rekindle connections from your previous experiences. Be willing to add value to the conversations you engage in – networking is a powerful tool, but it’s not one-sided.
3) While you're still drawing a steady paycheck, consider investing in your own growth. Pursue courses, workshops, or certifications that align with your future aspirations. This is your chance to land an even better job without the financial burden of being unemployed.
4) Take time to reflect on feedback from past interviews and adapt accordingly. Consider investing in a career coach if you really want to ace an interview but are worried about any pushback you may receive due to your current circumstances.

Embrace life’s twists and turns, it’s not always a straightforward path.

A lot of my clients are on the "𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘀 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱" 🎡

Each day, they spin round & round a circle of redundancy, 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 the next task, email, phone call, meeting they have to script their way through 🔁 Some of them don't have a job at all, and they are giving their hearts and souls to their job search, but just aren't making progress.

They ask themselves, "Am I worthy? Is it even possible for me to escape this madness?" and they answer their own conscience by saying, "No" 😢

This saddens me, deeply 🙁

First of all, you are 🔥 BUT > you can't & shouldn't do it alone. First seek God (𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘄 𝟲:𝟯𝟯), then seek your friends & family, then seek your resources [Think: Networking Events, LinkedIn, Facebook Groups, YouTube / Google, Books, Podcasts, etc.]. 🛠️ If you're applying to hundreds of jobs, but you have no direction, and you haven't thought about the best strategy to use your resources, it's time for a mentality . 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗯𝘀: 𝟮𝟰:𝟮𝟳 - "𝘋𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥𝘴 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦."

It's a difficult time for because companies are taking their dear sweet time to make hiring decisions, and the respect of job candidates seems to have dwindled down to a generic rejection email 6-months after the applicant prepared and went through 4 interviews with the company (Might I add > NO communication in between). 📨🚫🤯
