🔥 Firewise Tip for Homeowners
A home was recently purchased and inspected; however, it’s important to know that dryer exhaust systems are not always part of a standard inspection.
I just inspected one where the homeowners assumed everything was fine since the home had been checked.
It wasn’t.
What I found was a serious fire hazard:
• Venting under the house (not up to code)
• Heavily clogged with lint
• Essentially a fire waiting to happen
(I’ll include a photo so you can see what this looked like; I wish I had captured more of the wood structure underneath to give a fuller visual. Lint buildup can act like a straight line of fire, carrying flames through the exhaust and into the structure.)
If your dryer vent hasn’t been cleaned in over a year, it’s time.
The NFPA recommends cleaning at least once a year (or more with heavy use).
Lint, dust, hair, and pet fur build up over time and can ignite.
