We have been fighting for Ohio's children from our very first meeting in Columbus, but over the course of our advocacy, it dawned on us. We had a chance to help another vulnerable population that Ohio was ignoring. Ohio's senior citizens.

Today is Vivi’s 3rd birthday.

And her room still looks exactly the way she left it.

I still can’t change it. I can barely walk into it. Because somewhere inside me, moving her things feels like admitting that she isn’t coming back for them.

People sometimes think the ending of our story was the day Michael was sentenced to 15 years.

But there was no ending for us.

A prison sentence didn’t put Vivi back in her bed. It didn’t bring her running down the hallway. It didn’t give me another birthday, another Christmas, another ordinary Tuesday with my little girl.

Justice did not make our family whole.

I wake up every morning in a world that kept going without her—and somehow, I am expected to keep going too.

That is why Vivian’s Law still matters.

Because another family should never have to stand inside their child’s untouched bedroom and learn that 15 years is not the same thing as getting your baby back.

Today, on Vivi’s birthday, please don’t just remember her.

Keep fighting for her.

Happy birthday, my lucky penny.

Mommy would give anything to be putting candles on your cake instead of flowers on your grave. 🦋

Sharing our first highlight of House Bill 635.

By expanding the age provisions, House Bill 635 would make Ohio's aggravated murder statue one of the most robust in the country when the victim is a child.

With the General Assembly on recess until November, we are in a holding pattern for now.

Over the next few months we will be highlighting key provisions of House Bill 635 and sharing them with you. Our fight isn't over, we are still here and we are still working to help families like ours.

On Monday, House Bill 635 was favorably voted out of committee. The bill now awaits a full vote in the Ohio House, likely this fall.

House Bill 635 is a step in the right direction but we hope to build on it in the coming months. Our efforts continue.
