Last call for Creativity Practice x6

“We are what we practice.”

The idea of these sessions is that we can find practices that help us each move toward new patterns for ourselves. We can practice into ways of moving through our days, weeks, and projects that are more like how we want to be as a creative person.

One of our first inputs is the semi-famous piece by Ng’ethe Maina and Stacey Haines, “The transformative power of practice." Here are a couple of quotes.

“Each time we do the practice, we're spending that moment of time interrupting the old habits and living the new pattern that we seek to put into place. Literally as we practice... we're creating new neuronal pathways in the brain and new muscle memory in the body. So we want to ask ourselves, what is it that I want to be practicing? And take this question seriously.”

“Practice is transformative because you begin to embody new ways of being. Through repetition, what was a new practice becomes natural, easy. A new habit. ...We are what we practice.”

Starting in January, I'm hosting a practice group called "Creativity Practice x6." (x6 because, you know, there are six sessions.)

Conversations about it have turned up enough "huh" for an FAQ.

- Is this a course? If it's not a class, what is it?

- Does that mean no lessons or lectures? What am I getting for my $?

- Is this an art thing? Is it learning to draw or write?

- (Variations) I’m hungry for / afraid of a soulful experience. I seek to be stretched / I avoid discomfort. What can you say about that?

- Geez it kind of feels like a lot of money. Just sayin.

If you work in community/organizational shifts toward equity, belonging, power-shifts, inclusion, social emergence, development,... it can help to have time to pause and learn in the company of peers. Two friends are offering just that:

“[The] future is not just about firefighting and tinkering with the surface of structural change. It’s not just about replacing one mindset that no longer serves us with another. It’s a future that requires us to tap into a deeper level of our humanity, of who we really are and who we want to ...

Dear friends,
We've been asking ourselves how we can be of service during these times. Might we help you get better at facilitating online meetings?

Many of us are running online meetings for the first time, and feeling the need for new tricks and skills--realizing we'd like to gain some skill in how to engender participation and run an online meeting well.

And that’s the help we’d like to provide.

Training: we can run a 90-minute Zoom-based training on best practices for human-centered meetings.

Consulting: We’ll sit (virtually) beside you as you plan a meeting, sharing resources and good practices with you.

Facilitation: Maybe it would help to have us facilitate so you can focus on participating.

Specific topics might include helping your group come up with good habits for working remotely, finding workable online substitutes for gathering around a whiteboard;
or—why not—hosting a virtual happy hour! You tell us -- what challenges are you facing?

What next? Not sure? Have questions? Want to get started? Use this link to schedule a 15-minute chat or send us an email.

Wishing you health and smooth transitions in these times.
