Last Thursday, I had the privilege of attending the Long Island Hispanic Bar Association Gala — an unforgettable evening filled with recognition, inspiration, and community pride.

✨ Maribel Gomez, Esq., the new LIHBA President, shared a heartfelt message about resilience, leadership, and her commitment to expanding opportunities for the Hispanic community.

Hon. Rolando Acosta, 2025 Keynote Speaker, inspired us with his distinguished career as former Presiding Justice of the Appellate Division, First Department, and his dedication to justice and mentorship.

Hon. Lourdes Ventura received the Judicial Excellence Award for her outstanding service as an Associate Justice of the New York State Supreme Court and her lifelong dedication to equity and justice.

David M. Sperling, Esq. was honored with the Lifetime Contribution Award for nearly three decades of advocacy in immigration law, his founding of the DREAM Foundation, and his tireless defense of immigrant rights.

Frank Valverde, Esq. received the Legacy Leadership Award for his national impact in complex insurance litigation, his publications and leadership roles, and his ongoing service to the Long Island community.

It was a true honor to be present, to celebrate these outstanding leaders, and to witness the incredible energy of our Hispanic legal community. Nights like these remind us of the power of service, advocacy, and unity.

Closing a powerful chapter—and stepping into what’s next with clarity and renewed energy.

After a meaningful season of growth at the SBA as a Business Opportunity Specialist in the Metro New York District Office, I’ve made the exciting decision to begin a new chapter aligned with purpose, well-being, and vision.

This past year gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in federal contracting, economic development, and strategic business support—guiding small businesses and contractors in identifying federal opportunities, preparing to compete in the marketplace, and navigating compliance and eligibility processes.

I’m incredibly grateful for the professionals and partners I had the honor to work with—SBDC, SCORE, Empire State Development, Apex Accelerator, contracting officers, chambers of commerce, and so many inspiring entrepreneurs and agencies dedicated to supporting small business growth.

As I move forward, I do so with excitement and openness—whether through new leadership roles or impactful collaborations with Hub Direction USA. My mission remains clear:
To continue contributing to economic development, community engagement, and business growth across Long Island and New York State.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey—let’s stay connected!

Leadership is often misunderstood. Many believe it’s about making decisions, giving orders, and maintaining control. But true leadership isn’t measured by the number of decisions imposed—it’s defined by the impact created. A leader who simply provides answers fosters dependency; a leader who opens paths creates opportunities.

The way we approach challenges not only determines our results but also shapes the growth of those around us. Permissiveness breeds weakness, micromanagement stifles initiative, and fear paralyzes talent.

On the other hand, effective, clear, respectful, and inspiring communication builds trust, strengthens commitment, and drives productivity. When a leader sets high standards and fosters strategic collaboration, innovation thrives, and collective success accelerates.

A great example is Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, who reshaped the company’s culture by shifting from rigidity and internal competition to a foundation of trust and collaboration. Instead of micromanaging, he championed a culture of continuous learning, where open communication and teamwork revitalized Microsoft’s position as a technology leader. His vision enabled the company’s reinvention, strengthening creativity, innovation, and motivation at every level.

Have a good night!

Attending the Citywide MWBE Procurement Fair was really an incredible experience! It was fantastic to connect with so many people, especially some of our 8(a) certified clients.

Events like these are invaluable for strengthening relationships with various agencies, helping small businesses market themselves, and gaining a deeper understanding of the procurement process. They provide a unique opportunity to stay informed about the latest government contracting opportunities.

I encourage all small businesses that haven’t yet become certified to take the step toward government contracts. For those already certified, make it a habit to attend these events—it’s a worthwhile investment that can lead to great results down the line!

Yesterday, the New York District Office, led by John Mallano, celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by bringing together Hispanic entrepreneurs and organizations to recognize their contributions to the economy and inspire them to seize opportunities for growth through financing, counseling, federal contracting, and certifications.

The event featured the participation of the SBDC, WBC, and Operation Hope, as well as inspiring success stories from business owners like Karina Bermeo, Yudeika Carrera, Juan Martinez, and Vicky Black. We hope the event was enjoyable for all attendees and that it serves to elevate their businesses to the next level.

Today marks 11 years since the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with the support of the Consulate General of Colombia in New York, approved the implementation of our project.

This milestone has been instrumental in enhancing the social skills and fostering professional development among Colombians in Connecticut, Queens, and Long Island. We are immensely grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the Latinx community’s growth and well-being.

This experience remains a cherished memory filled with gratitude. We hope that the positive results continue to resonate with those who attended the program.
