Caja del Rio Landfill Closed Due to High Winds

Due to high winds the Caja del Rio Landfill will be closed today, March 14, 2025.

The Caja del Rio Landfill will reopen on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at normal operating hours.

Caja Del Rio Landfill hours 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

POTENTIAL CLOSURE OF CAJA DEL RIO LANDFILL DUE TO HIGH WINDS
The Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency is closely monitoring weather conditions and has issued a notice regarding the potential closure of the Caja del Rio Landfill for Friday, March 14, due to high wind advisories issued by the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service has indicated high winds throughout the day on Friday for the Santa Fe area. These conditions pose a potential safety risk to customers and employees.
The Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency will evaluate weather conditions no later than 7:00 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025 and announce any closure decision thereafter.

2024 Summer Free Trash Day
Caja del Rio Landfill ONLY
Saturday, July 20
7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

The Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency is hosting Summer Free Trash Day for City of Santa Fe and Santa Fe County residents on Saturday, July 20, from 7 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Caja del Rio Landfill, 149 Wildlife Way. The Buckman Road Recycling & Transfer Station will not be part of the summer free trash day, fees will be charged accordingly.

The Agency expects a large turnout for this popular event, so be prepared for a longer wait time than normal. Residents needing assistance with unloading should bring help with them.

Residents must also observe the following:
- All loads must be secured and covered with a tarp.
- All non-acceptable items will be subject to tipping fees.
- Loads that arrive in commercial vehicles or trailers and will be subject to tipping fees for commercial/business waste.

Acceptable items:
Garbage, rubbish, unwanted materials
Bulky items – appliances, furniture, mattresses
Residential building materials, carpet, tiles, concrete, bricks, metals

Non-acceptable items:
Electronic Waste – Free E-Waste Days are the first Saturday of every month from February to November.
Household Hazardous Waste – Free HHW Days are the first Saturday of every month from February to November.
Tires – Free Tire Days are the first full weekend of every month.
Green Waste – Free Green Waste Days are the first full weekend of the month from March to October.

The Santa Fe County's convenience centers are not part of the free trash day. Residents will be charged the appropriate punches on their punch card.

BuRRT and Caja del Rio Landfill Hours July 4th for Independence Day
The Buckman Road Recycling & Transfer Station (BuRRT) will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2024, in observance of Independence Day. BuRRT will reopen on Friday, July 5, at regular operating hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
The Caja del Rio Landfill will be open on Independence Day. The landfill hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

BURRT AND CAJA DEL RIO LANDFILL WILL BE OPEN ON JUNETEENTH

The Buckman Road Recycling & Transfer Station (BuRRT) and Caja del Rio Landfill will be open on Juneteenth, Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

The Caja del Rio Landfill’s hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Buckman Road Recycling & Transfer Station’s hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

BuRRT and Caja del Rio Landfill Hours for Memorial Day

The Buckman Road Recycling & Transfer Station (BuRRT) will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2024, in observance of Memorial Day. BuRRT will reopen on Tuesday, May 28, at regular operating hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

The Caja del Rio Landfill will be open on Memorial Day. The landfill’s hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

2024 Spring Free Trash Day
April 13, 2024 7:00 am to 1:00 pm
The Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency is hosting Free Trash Day for City of Santa Fe and Santa Fe County residents on Saturday, April 13, from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Buckman Road Recycling and Transfer Station (BuRRT) and Caja del Rio Landfill.
The Agency anticipates a large turnout for this popular event, so be prepared for a longer wait time. Residents needing assistance with unloading should bring help with them.
Residents must also observe the following:
- All loads must be secured and covered with a tarp.
- All non-acceptable items will be subject to tipping fees.
- Loads that arrive in commercial vehicles or trailers will be subject to tipping fees for commercial/business waste.
To avoid long wait times, the Agency encourages recyclers to come on another day or to use the City recycling drop-off centers at 2950 Agua Fria or 4009 Lucia Lane.

The Buckman Road Recycling & Transfer Station (BuRRT) and Caja del Rio Landfill will be closed on Monday, December 25, 2023, in observance of Christmas Day.
Both BuRRT and the landfill will reopen on Tuesday, December 26, at normal operating hours.
The transfer station’s hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

The landfill’s hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
