Last night, Madarang Hoort & Associates was honored to sponsor the Siren Eaton Shelter Gala an evening that served as both a celebration of hope and a heartbreaking reminder of why SIREN’s mission matters so deeply.
For decades, SIREN has provided lifesaving support, advocacy, shelter, and resources for survivors of domestic violence and their children, helping thousands of families rebuild their lives. Yet even with their incredible impact, limited funding forced the organization to turn away 267 families last year alone. That number should stop all of us in our tracks.
One of the most powerful moments of the evening came from Wendy Hensen, mother of Emily Elizabeth Hensen, who courageously shared her daughter’s story. Emily, a cancer survivor with so much life ahead of her, was tragically murdered by her boyfriend of eight years on September 10, 2024, in Dewitt Township after being shot at close range with an AR-15 ghost gun.
Wendy’s strength and vulnerability moved everyone in the room. Through unimaginable grief, she spoke about how SIREN helped support and guide their family through healing — and why she is committed to making sure Emily’s story is heard so other survivors know there is help, there is hope, and there are organizations like SIREN ready to stand beside them.
We are grateful to support SIREN’s mission and encourage our community to continue advocating for survivors and investing in the critical resources that save lives every single day.
