We're all set up at the Splash for Recovery event in Tracy Park!

It's a hot one out there, so we'd like to thank our partners at the WBC of Central Appalachia at SSU for providing us with one of their tents for a little extra shade.

One of the services we offer to returning citizens is personal assessment and coaching.

Using the Entrepreneurial Mindset Profile (EMP), we create a benchmark for progress and goal-setting that is based on extensive empirical research into the habits, skills, and dispositions of successful entrepreneurs.

Our participants walk away from every training session with a deeper self-awareness that empowers them to lean into their unique strengths -- on the job, in the classroom, and in the business world.

Access to capital is hard to come by for rural entrepreneurs.

This is true in general, but it's even more true for our returning citizens who face personal financial challenges such as low credit scores, minimal savings, and reduced collateral.

The training we provide will NOT make all these problems go away overnight, nor will it guarantee business success for individuals in recovery and re-entry.

What it WILL do is teach you how to take an idea straight to market with very few resources, gaining confidence and capital along the way with the help of a growing support network of peers, partners, mentors, and advisers.

💪 You'll learn from the example of those who've been there.
💪 You'll develop tools to manage your resources and build wealth.
💪 You'll receive 1-on-1 business coaching from trusted professionals.
💪 You'll find real confidence in yourself by taking action - the kind of action that inspires employers, customers, and investors to buy into what you're selling.

In short, you'll build a new sense of personal agency that forever changes the way you see the world, and in turn, the way the world sees you.

Program update!

We're moving the start date of our Recovery Capital Training Cohort to the first week of September to better accommodate participant schedules.

That means there is still time for you to join.

During this 8-week program, you will develop key entrepreneurial skills that empower you to:

💥 Start a business
💥 Become more employable
💥 Navigate the challenges of life more successfully

Participants will meet in person one evening per week at our training location in downtown Portsmouth, Ohio. Each session includes facilitated group discussion, reflection exercises, and experiential learning activities designed to help you better understand yourself and transform your approach to life.

Outside of class, you'll gain access to online learning materials that fuel your passion to grow by giving you practical insights from everyday entrepreneurs who overcame adversity in their pursuit of opportunity. You'll also get early bird access to an app we're designing that helps you build personal agency. 💪

Following completion of the course, you'll receive a micro-credential you can add to your resume, signaling to employers that you've been trained in essential 21st century skills that no A.I. tool will ever replace. And you'll get six months of follow-up coaching to continue building agency and/or pursuing your business idea.

This program is open to individuals in recovery or re-entry who live in Scioto and Lawrence counties. If you want to join but have transportation barriers that might make it hard for you to attend, we've got money to help.

Special delivery!

Ten laptops arrived in the mail this weekend, courtesy of a generous grant from The Scioto Foundation.

These laptops will be available for participants to use during our training programs.

Speaking of which, we have two opportunities on the immediate horizon:

1. Strengthening Recovery Capital, an 8-week training cohort followed by 6 months of follow-up coaching and support, is set to launch in August. Space is limited, so reserve your seat today!

2. Personal Agency Learning Lab, an 8-week learning experience that combines our entrepreneurial mindset curriculum with practical digital skills training. This pilot is open to 10 individuals and is scheduled to begin in October.

Recovery capital is the collection of internal and external resources that an individual can draw upon to initiate and sustain recovery from addiction or mental health challenges.

It turns out that many of the skills an entrepreneur needs to succeed in business are the same skills needed to successfully navigate the challenges of re-entry.

As a bonus, they can also empower you to become self-employed and bypass the barriers you might face to conventional employment.

Recover Appalachia is here to help with both.

This program, which is made possible by support from the Pallottine Foundation of Huntington WV, is open to individuals in recovery who are actively involved in their local peer support communities (AA, NA, Smart Recovery, faith-based, etc.) in either Scioto or Lawrence counties. Training will begin in August.
