Being a badass mean you are bold, beautiful, elegant, sexy, confident, respectful and unapologetic. A badass is not ashamed, arrogant, offensive, tacky or ratchet.

Aspiring speakers are given 5 minutes to pitch their idea to a group of individuals, aiming to convince the curation team and the audience that their talk is TED-worthy. The chosen winner will have the opportunity to grace the main TEDxUStreetWomen stage in the Fall of 2025.

We are proud to introduce our “Where Are They Now” Speaker Spotlight Series. A place where you can keep up with our previous TEDxUStreetWomen speakers.

Our first speaker is Michele Barnwell Michele Barnwell one of our first TEDxUStreetWomen speakers. Michele is an executive producer and writer/storyteller, she has spent her career working on nonfiction content for television and digital platforms— with an exciting emphasis on authentic story-craft and an expertise in the same. Some of her accomplishments include Party Girls: Exploring Politics Across America (“party” as in political party)— a 6-part road-trip documentary web series following six new voters from different political parties in the lead-up to the 2016 Presidential election, the Netflix original documentary series Flint Town (an Anonymous Content production), Show Producer for the reality series America’s Next Top, and Tiny & Toya.

Her talk entitled Scripting Your Own Reality shares her professional and personal story where she reflects on whose story/life she was living? She asks the listener to question their life - Is it the one you chose for yourself or the one someone else “cast” you into?

Currently Michele served as Showrunner Executive Producer of Season 2 "High on the Hog: How African American Cuisine Transformed America", which is now streaming only on Netflix. This was a powerful work of love, strength and storytelling. Together with my amazing team, meeting and documenting the keepers of our culture was a blessing and a joy. Stepping onboard this series in its second season felt like a sacred trust. The series is available in 190 countries and in SEVERAL dozen languages, streaming only on Netflix.
