Of all the hours my workers and I spent on Emergency Preparedness we always have it in the back of our minds if we will do it right when the time comes because we never had a benchmark on how to do it right. We do now. I now know how to do it right just by watching and learning how all the Boston Emergency Departments worked flawlessly and in unison at the tragedy that happened at Copley Plaza. The unsung heroes are the area businesses that have swung open their doors to help and the average Joe/Jane who never gave it a second thought when the bombs exploded to put themselves in harm's way to lend a hand.

Last night the contractor's working installing drainage on North Main Street, accidently slice through Home & Hospice's fire alarm cable. After bringing all the parties together it was refreshing to see that a company immediately owes up to its responsibilities and does everything in its power to correct it as soon as possible. Tonight they installed and fixed the problem. And it was not a low cost item. Many man and equipment hours went into this.

I would like to thank BETA Engineering, C. Brito Excavating and Rossi Electric for an exceptional job and conducting themselves with the upmost professionalism and respect towards myself and Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island.

CMS is now reviewing the changes to the current NFPA 101 Life Safety Codes. The review and acceptance will probably last until early 2015. In the following weeks I will blog on this site some of the major changes to the LSC 2012 edition.

Plan now for the changes and your organization will have a smooth transition and stay current with CMS.

The Goddard House in Jamaca Plain, Massachusetts is closing down with a loss of 135 jobs. The failure of the Goddard House's Board of Director to adequately fund and maintain the facility is one of the reasons it no longer recieves CMS acceptance.

Facilities maintenance is an investment to insure the proper function of a facilities. Fix when broken policies cost more money than preventive maintenance.
