High performers rarely collapse under pressure.
Instead, we tighten the schedule. Buckle down. Maintain commitments. Protect momentum.

Over the past few months I learned something the hard way - The week I lost my brother, I sat for a major professional exam. And I failed.

Not because I wasn’t prepared. Because I ignored capacity.

Overwhelm narrows perspective. When you’re overloaded, the fastest decision often feels like the strongest one.

Resilience isn’t overriding your limits. It’s about recognizing them.

Where do you see leaders over-function the most?

When have you had to recalibrate instead of push through?

Over the past month, life forced me to rethink that definition.

What was supposed to be a momentum season — a professional exam, travel for a large org design program, a speaking event, and a new coaching client — turned into something very different after my brother passed away.

Grief, illness, and a nervous system crash forced a level of recalibration I hadn’t planned for.

One of the hardest parts wasn’t the workload.

It was saying the words high performers struggle with most:

“I can’t right now.”

I wrote a reflection about what that season revealed about leadership, resilience, and capacity.

Resilience isn’t endurance. It’s discernment.

The hard conversations you’re avoiding at work? They’re the same ones keeping you stuck.

I moved from Texas to Colorado thinking distance would fix things.

What I didn’t realize was that I’d been in survival mode for years, and the real work started when I finally told myself the truth.

This isn’t a story about quitting or burning it all down. It’s about what happens when high performers stop pushing through and start speaking up.

Hard conversations are a recovery skill. And they don’t start with your boss or your team.

They start with you.

Some of the beliefs we carry aren’t even ours.

They came from our parents, our generation, the culture we grew up in:

“Asking for help is weakness.”

“By this age, I should have it figured out.”

“Therapy is for people who can’t handle life.”

“Coaching is just paying someone to tell you what to do.”

Here’s the truth nobody told us:

The strongest leaders I know are the ones who stay curious and keep growing. They’re the ones who admit when they’re stuck and ask for support.

They’re the ones who invest in themselves, not because they’re broken, but because they know they’re worth it.

I’ve worked with construction managers in their 50s who finally learned to lead without burning out.

I’ve worked with young professionals in their 20s building the careers and lives they actually want.

I’ve worked with people in recovery who are creating futures they never thought possible.

The common thread? They didn’t wait until they “should” have it figured out. They got curious. They invested. They grew.

If you’ve been wondering whether coaching (or therapy, or both) is right for you, regardless of your age or where you are in life, start here.

You’re not too old.
You’re not too young.
You’re not “too much.”

You’re exactly where you need to be to take the next step.

You’re not stuck because something’s wrong with you.

You might just be working on forward-focused goals without the right kind of support.

Coaching isn’t therapy. It’s not about healing from the past, it’s about building the future you actually want.

If any of these signs hit home, let’s talk about where you are and where you want to go.

There’s a conversation most of us are avoiding. And it’s costing us more than we think.

On March 5th, I’ll be speaking at the WIC Week® Summit in Nashville, part of Women in Construction Week® (March 1–7).

I’ll be leading a breakout called:

Say the Thing
A practical approach to real conversations

No fluff.
No scripts.
No awkward role play.

Just simple language and real scenarios you can actually use.

If WIC Week is on your radar, March 5th is the day. Registration link in comments.

Ask yourself this:

Am I trying to heal from the past or build toward the future?

🔹 THERAPY if: You’re dealing with mental health symptoms, trauma, or emotional patterns significantly impacting your life. You need clinical support to heal and stabilize.

🔹 COACHING if: You feel stable but stuck. You have goals but need accountability, clarity, and a thought partner to help you achieve them.

Still not sure? That’s okay. Your answer might be “both”—and that’s completely normal.

This week at coffee: I’m in my 8 energy, he’s in his 2 energy. Which means the usual dynamic between us (7w8 + 3w2) completely flipped.

Me: Less ‘let’s try everything!’ and more ‘here’s what I really need.’ Direct. Grounded. Real.

Him: Less ‘look what we accomplished today’ and more ‘how are you really doing?’ Soft. Present. Just… there.

Here’s what people miss about wings in relationships: they’re not personality add-ons. They’re the parts of you that show up exactly when your partner needs something different.

Sometimes the adventurer plants their feet. Sometimes the achiever just wants to be loved.

Understanding this? Game changer.

Curious about your type and wings? I do Enneagram Discovery Sessions to help you understand how YOU show up in relationships. Link in bio 💜
