Burnout isn’t always about workload.

Sometimes it’s about direction.

When leaders move in too many directions at once, staff try to keep up.

They don’t know what matters most.

So they try to do everything.

And that’s exhausting.

Clear goals make it easier to focus.

Focus lowers burnout.

I wrote about how putting things in the right order protects your team.

Staff leaving.
Board tension.
Burnout.
Slow decisions.

Sometimes we treat these as separate problems.

They’re not.

They’re usually signs that something bigger is missing...clarity.

When the mission and goals aren’t clear, everything gets harder.

I wrote about what these signs really mean and how to start fixing them.

If you’ve been feeling the weight lately, go read this one.

You can’t ask for what you won’t model.

Leading from the front means you don’t just talk about the standard.

You live it.

When your team sees you take ownership, admit mistakes, and do the work something changes.

They trust you more.

They bring better ideas.

They tell you what’s not working.

That kind of culture doesn’t happen by accident.

I wrote about why this kind of leadership builds real trust, and what happens when it’s missing.

People underestimate clarity.
They think grit is enough.

Grit will get you started.
It will push you through hard seasons.
It will keep you moving.

But grit alone will burn you out.
Clarity is what sustains you.

Clarity tells your team what matters.
Clarity defines what success looks like.
Clarity keeps everyone moving in the same direction.

If things feel busy but not aligned, don’t just work harder.
Get clearer.

Where do you feel the most confusion right now? Mission, roles, messaging, or direction?

02/20/2026

Most businesses don’t notice the drift until it’s too late.

The slow move away from the mission and the goals.

It’s subtle.

You feel busy.
You think you’re winning.
But deep down, things feel off.

There’s a lot of talk.
A lot of work.
But not much forward movement.

This week I wrote about why this happens and how to reset before it costs you.

If this feels familiar, the full post is on Substack.

Growth will expose what you ignored.
Weak systems
Unclear goals
Communication gaps
Cultural cracks
Leadership blind spots

Not because growth is bad.
But because growth multiplies everything.
If confusion exists at level one,
It will be louder at level ten.

Micromanaging is not leadership.

It’s often a sign of low trust and unclear expectations not a bad team.

When leaders micromanage, teams hear things that are rarely said out loud:
“I don’t trust you.”
“I’ll just do it myself.”
“You’re not ready.”

So people stop taking ownership.
And leaders end up doing everything.

That’s not control.
That’s burnout.

I wrote more about:

What micromanaging really looks like

Why it breaks trust

And one simple step leaders can take to move forward

Micromanaging is not leadership. It’s fear dressed up as control.

Teams need room to think
Room to try
Room to make small mistakes and learn.

When leaders hover, teams shrink.
