Our family gap year was truly trial by fire.

There is so much that goes into long-term family travel that it is nearly impossible to anticipate everything the first time.

We learned as we went, and every time something went wrong, we documented it, figured out what we should have done differently, and added that to the way we planned the next destination.

Eventually, we realized we were no longer starting from scratch every time we moved. We had built a system we could repeat anywhere in the world.

That system allowed us to make decisions faster, avoid repeating the same mistakes, and choose places based on what truly worked for our family and not just default to wherever everyone else was going.

Now, we have turned that system into something other families can use too.

Because you should not have to spend your long-term travel overwhelmed, burned out, and learning every lesson the hard way. You should be able to be present with your kids, enjoy where you are, and have the tools you need when something comes up.

We built this for families who want more time together, are tired of the 9-to-5 grind, and do not want to wait until their kids are grown to create a different kind of life.

We spent 9 months traveling through Southeast Asia and India, and let’s just say car seats were not part of the itinerary.

🚗➡️🛵 From real safety regulations back home to holding tight on motorbikes and tuk-tuks abroad, we learned there’s no shortage of creative ways to get around the world.

Would you do this with your kids? 👀

I don’t think most families are putting off long-term travel because they don’t want it badly enough.

I think they keep putting it off because they still can’t see how this becomes their real life instead of an idea that stays on a vision board.

Most of us can picture the destination. Spending more time together and giving our kids the kind of childhood we always said we wanted to give them.

What most of us can’t picture is how to actually get from where we are now to there. The destination is clear, but the GPS isn’t set up yet.

How do we know we’re making the right decisions?

Can we actually afford this?

Can we make it work for our family without constantly feeling like we’re guessing?

Because the dream isn’t just to travel more.

It’s having more time with your kids.

Being able to choose where your family lives instead of letting a school calendar and work schedule make every decision for you.

It’s no longer looking at families doing this and thinking, “I wish we could do that.”

It’s knowing you can.

That is what having a real system for long-term family travel gives you.

Not a plan or a few budget hacks for one trip to one specific place.

A way to take the life that has been sitting on your vision board and actually build it for your family.

To know what decisions to make, trust yourself as you make them, and keep creating a life that works wherever in the world you choose to go.

Apparently telling your parents you’re traveling a year with your kids and it’s not Europe has the same energy as confessing to a double life. 😂

Truthfully though, this is a shared experience for so many of the families doing the same thing.

But the reality is so much of the world is unknown to us that we go off what the media presents and take that as truth about an entire population of people.

For us we want to understand other cultures and people beyond what we’ve been told. We want to be present with our kids, and own our own time.

You don’t have to choose between security and presence with your family and you definitely don’t have to go to Europe to live the life you want.

You can travel on $3k a month with a real strategy.

I boom Airbnbs completely different than everyone else.

Here’s what actually works: neighborhood first, listings second.

1️⃣ Research the neighborhoods. We use the Destination Match Deep Dive to compare different areas and understand what each neighborhood is best for.

2️⃣ Build out our own map in Google Maps with all the places we care about. This helps us identify clusters and narrow down which neighborhoods make the most sense for our day-to-day life.

3️⃣ Go to Airbnb and apply the filters we want for our stay. Once we’ve already chosen the neighborhoods, we compare listings ONLY inside those areas.

4️⃣ Review the listing closely, read host reviews carefully, and message the host before booking.

It sounds simple because it is, but most families never do it, which is why they’re shocked when I tell them what we spend monthly.

Doing this is the difference between a failed month abroad and one that thrives with kids.

If you’re ready to rethink how you approach family travel (not just Airbnbs, but the entire system), I’m building a priority waitlist for people who want to learn all of this.
