You bought the unit the chart recommended. It is the right size for the square footage. And it still feels like it is not working.

Here is the thing: many residential dehumidifier ratings are based on warmer test conditions, often around 80°F and 60% relative humidity. Inland Empire winters can run much cooler. At lower temperatures, the same unit can remove significantly less moisture than the number on the box suggests.

The chart is not broken. It is just not measuring the room you live in.

Before replacing the unit, take three readings. Five minutes:

1. Indoor RH in the target room
2. Temperature at the unit
3. Outdoor RH for comparison

A $30 hygrometer gives you the first two. Those numbers help show whether the unit is undersized for the actual conditions, or whether a moisture source is adding more humidity than the unit can remove.
