**There's just something about meatloaf that tastes like home. ❤️**

This week's *Kayla's Client Kitchen* is one of those recipes that doesn't need to be fancy to be good.

It's simple. It's filling. And it's one I've made both for my clients and at home.

My homestyle meatloaf uses ground beef, crushed saltines, a few of my favorite seasonings, and—probably my favorite part—a homemade sweet and tangy glaze that gets added while it bakes AND saved for spooning over each slice.

Because obviously you need extra sauce. 😂

And if there happen to be leftovers?

Meatloaf sandwiches the next day. 🤤 My husband and I both love them.

One of my favorite things about cooking for my clients is that food can be so much more than just dinner. A familiar meal can bring back memories, start conversations, or simply make someone's house feel a little more like home.

That's exactly what *Kayla's Client Kitchen* is about. ❤️

**Coming September 3: Kayla's Homestyle Meatloaf**

Maybe add mashed potatoes and some veggies on the side... and dinner is handled. 😉

**Some teachers teach you a subject. Some teachers change the way you see yourself. ❤️**

Tomorrow's *The People Who Built Me* is about one of those teachers.

When I walked into Mrs. Rademacher's English classroom my senior year, I was a dyslexic seventeen-year-old who wasn't even sure I belonged in public school.

Reading was hard.

Spelling was hard.

Writing was REALLY hard.

The funny thing was, I had so much I wanted to say.

I just didn't know how to get it from my head and my heart onto paper.

Mrs. Rademacher saw something in me that I couldn't see yet.

She didn't look at all the spelling mistakes or the sentences that didn't quite come together.

She saw a storyteller.

One day, she told me:

*"Your words are beautiful. You just need to work on putting them together."*

I don't think she could've known how much those words would follow me.

Because years later...

Here I am.

Writing.

Sharing my stories.

Sharing the stories of the people who've shaped me.

And doing something that the scared, dyslexic seventeen-year-old sitting in her classroom probably never would've believed she'd be doing.

Tomorrow, I get to tell you about the teacher who helped me find my voice. ❤️

**Tomorrow, I'm sharing the story of how Kayla Cares was born. ❤️**

If you've been following along, you've already read about the week that made me realize I couldn't keep going.

Then I shared what rebuilding looked like.

Tomorrow is the final piece of that story.

**The Birth of Kayla Cares.**

Starting a business was never the dream.

Actually, the idea terrified me.

I didn't leave the hospital thinking, *I'm going to become a business owner.*

I left trying to figure out who I was, what came next, and whether I even wanted to work in healthcare anymore.

But one question kept coming back to me:

**What if care could be different?**

What if there was time for the cup of coffee?

Time to hear the same story for the tenth time?

Time to actually know the person you're caring for instead of racing through a checklist?

I didn't know it then, but that question would become the foundation of Kayla Cares.

Tomorrow's blog is about the fear, the late nights, the doubts, the first families who took a chance on me, and how one of the hardest chapters of my life eventually became something I'm incredibly proud to have built.

The hospital taught me how to care.

Burnout taught me my limits.

And Kayla Cares became my promise that neither lesson would ever be wasted. ❤️

**Tomorrow is a hard blog for me to share. ❤️**

Tomorrow would be my Poppy's birthday, and tomorrow's *The People Who Built Me* is about him.

I've written about people who have shaped me in so many different ways, but this one hits differently.

My Poppy was only in my life for a few short years. I met him in 2018, and we lost him in 2021. We didn't get nearly enough time together, and if I'm being completely honest, that's something I still carry a lot of regret about.

I thought I had more time.

More birthdays. More Christmas calls. More chances to make the trip to Washington. More opportunities to pick up the phone.

But sometimes you don't get more time.

Tomorrow's blog is about that. It's about grief, regret, faith, beauty school, finding my own path, and the last promise my Poppy ever made me.

It's probably one of the harder pieces I've written for *The People Who Built Me.*

But it's also one I really wanted to write.

Because even though our time together was short, it was enough for him to leave fingerprints on the person I'm still becoming.

Happy early Heavenly Birthday, Poppy. ❤️

Tomorrow, I get to tell your story.

Love,
Mickey / Meeka

**How I Chose to Rebuild**

Last week, I shared the story of how I broke.

Tomorrow, I'm sharing what happened next.

Healing didn't happen overnight. It didn't come from a vacation or a perfect plan. It came from small choices, quiet moments, and learning that I deserved the same compassion I gave so freely to everyone else.

If you've ever felt exhausted, burned out, or like you were running on empty, I wrote this one for you.

I hope you'll join me tomorrow. 💙

**The Week That Made Me Realize I Couldn't Keep Going**

There was one week that changed the direction of my life.

At the time, it felt like everything I had worked for was falling apart.

Looking back, I can see it was the beginning of something I never knew I needed.

Tomorrow, I'm sharing the story I haven't been ready to tell until now—the week that broke me, the lesson it taught me, and how it became the foundation of Kayla Cares.

If you've ever poured everything you had into something and wondered if it was enough, I hope you'll read this one.

**🌙 Tomorrow on the Kayla Cares Blog...**

**The Small-Town Stories**

I thought I'd heard every story Gerry had to tell.

I was wrong.

A conversation with another client unexpectedly brought him back into the room—not through my memories, but through theirs.

Tomorrow, I'm sharing the stories I never knew. The stories of the businessman, the husband, the father, and the younger man who existed long before I was ever "the kid."

Sometimes the people we lose aren't finished teaching us.

Sometimes their story keeps finding its way home.

I hope you'll join me tomorrow for this one. ❤️

**🌙 Today in Kayla's Client Kitchen...**

**Creamy Chicken & Rice Casserole**

Some recipes feed your stomach.

Others feed your soul.

Tomorrow, I'm sharing one of the recipes that's made its way into the homes of several of my clients over the years. It's simple, comforting, easy to customize, and one of those meals that somehow makes a house feel a little more like home.

I can't wait to share it with you. Maybe it'll become a favorite in your kitchen too.
