Mystery… just enough, can drive curiosity and desire to learn more, but too much often just stops Antony from trying to figure it out. Too much mystery just creates limitations that inevitably get in the way of discovery … personally, the best part is knowing we will never figure it out completely, since nature adapts and will persevere , as it always has. Being able to approach every day with open eyes and attention to detail, has been very impactful with my own personal fishing. Usually inspiring my next cast or the next goal. It can often lead to remarkable discoveries that don’t necessarily lead to anything concrete at all… Just more questions…which is COMPLETELY OK! The best part is that some things don’t need to be “figured out”… just appreciated and shared with others whenever possible.

Time to show your stripes! If the day ends in “y”, it’ll be a great day to go fishing for sure. It’s awfully hard to pass up the opportunity to target these hybrid striper, because let’s face it… they’re the craziest fighting freshwater fish we have. Oddly enough for how large these fish become, it’s more of a rarity to hook one on a big bait…. Oh and significantly harder to land without losing the fish, lure or even the whole rod. Success rates increase dramatically while focusing on a steady retrieve and a single hook approach, with a very small paddle tail swim bait (2.8” fat Keitech, Muddy Water Lures or Crappie Magnet “tiny dancer” ) and a very, very long cast.

Both a large lure and a small soft plastic can have the same “draw power” effect, often bringing in fish from a very long ways away. Yes, they school up regularly for safety/conserving energy etc since they are an open water predator (pelagic, or mostly swimming/roaming fish, rather than hiding like a largemouth) but when the lights go down and things get quiet… These things are looking to ambush their prey by catching it off guard with speed the ability to camouflage himself so well that they’re almost invisible. This time, it’s 2x FSC Berks Izaak Walton League spring champions. Kevin Gergel bringing the heat on this one, executing some outstanding jerkbait technique and securing another opportunity to connect with everyone in this community on a friendly/competitive level. What a way to kick off the season with this group of awesome people! This lake sure does make some great anglers.

Just another day in Pennsylvania winter paradise at Blue Marsh Lake chillin with those pa-penguins. Since things are a little too frozen to cast at this point, our focus will now be on the outdoor show in harrisburg (starting Feb 9th) with Fin-x Rods , tossing some Livingston Lures into the tank, covering rod selection and the when-where-why visual aspect of how selecting the right equipment for YOU can make all the difference.

There will come a time during your own fishing journey, when you will buy a lure that you think will absolutely catch every single fish in the lake as soon as you throw it in the water. There is no way it couldn’t, it looks so good. Most will attempt to catch a fish and after a few unproductive casts, resort to tying something else on. This leaves more doubt and an immediate lack of confidence in the lure. Sure, you will just go buy another one that also will work … for sure this time … likely putting you in the same position you’re in for with a bunch of baits it seems like everyone else can catch fish on. This industry is very heavily focussed on going to buy another one, that too very important things are often forgotten about or at least put last, because skills and confidence are awfully hard to sell on a shelf. The other major thing… science in nature. For the rest of the winter, we will be showcasing different techniques and some of the lures we truly believe in… Because it’s science yo!

The attempt to make open water at the didnt exactly end up with open water, but nature has a way of keeping those secrets hidden. I mean, it’s basically Minus33 degrees, explaining what i wear to do this everyday. This ice was just too thick to break safely without a chainsaw, so it’s back home to put these Livingston Lures into the water. Well… Now that it is consistently too cold to justify going out at night, it’s also too cold to consider even going out at all without the proper equipment. One thing about temps below 40°…. the lake is pretty quiet. The lake looks different this time of year and has become something of a staple for education time for me personally. There are not very many other people on this 1100 acre lake this time of the year (often having the entire lake to myself), which has given me the opportunity to spend the last few years honing in on things that just don’t get talked about….. but ohhh boy are there some strongly rooted opinions about fishing in cold water. Wintertime fishing can often be compared to fishing in the summer because it’s tough on us physically as humans. It’s also easier to make excuses as to why fish didnt get caught if there is ice in the rod guides or tons of wakeboats and jetskis etc. Quite a lot of the information pertaining to challenging times of the year, focus heavily on finesse tactics, tiny baits or wiggling a plasitic at a dot on FFS sonar. Being that I’ve done nothing but experience the complete opposite of that over the past few years, this year‘s focused goal has almost come full circle. Since being famous doesn’t matter at freakin all, the goal here is always being consistent enough to study things that actually matter … but more from the perspective of a fish. (Fishing daily, targeting different species, overcoming hard conditions and utilizing technology play a major role in what gets passed on to the anglers who chose to join
