Has someone told you to 'relax'? When you are feeling anxiety - that is the most annoying statement! If you could relax you would have. But there are some techniques you can practice that will really work. We have seen several programs that stimulate the brain to synchronize in a way that leads to relaxation - but also superior brain power. Test taking anxiety is a combination of physical and emotional symptoms that precede a test and or occur during a test. These range in extremes from worry about outcomes, to profound physical symptoms such as headaches, stomach aches, nausea, diarrhea, excessive sweating, shortness of breath, light-headedness or fainting, rapid heart beat, and dry mouth. The extreme psychological symptoms may range from poor concentration to completely ‘going blank’ or a confused state.

There is a negative feedback loop that begins to occur after some experience. These may be traumatic events, but more often are seemingly insignificant small experiences that plant the seed of fear. Fear of failure is the one most often heard, but it can also include disappointing one’s parents, peer comparisons, fear of success causing unwanted changes, etc. As part of this negative feedback loop the fear begins to instill negative self talk, which usually leads to self condemnation and feelings of inadequacy. The anticipated negatives grow from momentary failure to doom and gloom catastrophes. All of this negative mental work feeds back into the physical body and causes production of ‘fight or flight’ stress hormones which then flood the body. Done too often, they cause physical symptoms.

Quick relaxation technique #1: THE TENSING AND DIFFERENTIAL RELAXATION METHOD
Put your feet flat on the floor.
With your hands, grab underneath the chair.
Push down with your feet and pull up on your chair at the same time for about five seconds.
Relax for five to ten seconds.
Repeat the procedure two or three times.
Relax all your muscles except the ones that are actually used to take the test.
for more quick techniques see this article. http://testtakinganxiety.info/quick-relaxation-techniques-for-test-taking-anxiety/

I have been looking for techniques to post for relaxation before test taking for those with test taking anxiety. Most of the techniques involve lots of practice. Searching more I found these 3 techniques:

Effective Study Tip #3: Create flash cards. Exam anxiety is often relieved by knowing that you have a good ‘handle’ on key words or key concepts, so the use of flash cards can take the ideas and key concepts into easily studied chunks. This again allows you to re-write critical pieces of information and requires physical and visual activity. You can even add designs or creative twists to the cards to insure both sides of your brain are activated.

If it had not been for speed reading in college - I would never have made it. I can’t tell you what a difference it made in my life. Check out this article - with videos that could help you see if this is a path for you - http://testtakinganxiety.info/speed-reading-video/

Ever had someone tell you that speed reading was not real? I did. But when I went to college I was overwhelmed by the reading requirements. At that time, the only speed reading course was a very old and cumbersome system – but it worked. After that course I could read most ‘required reading’ fic...

Effective Study Tool Tip #2: Create study check lists. This allows you to organize the materials into categories – making lists of the facts and ideas. The act of composing these lists requires that you revisit all of the information, make decisions about their importance, and you’ve created a easy review list for yourself.
