At the time of inception, the primary purpose of the organization was to conduct crucial research on the African American woman’s experiences with in**st and child s*xual abuse. While engaged in this research, it became obvious that work in the areas of exposing the prevalence, consequences, and prevention strategies were direly needed. The name of the organization was changed in 1999 to reflect the inner struggle of African American women survivors and the consistent message received from individuals that inner peace was elusive in their lives. It is the organizations belief that until African American in**st and child s*xual abuse survivors begin and complete the journey toward "Nirvana" neither they, nor the African Americancommunity can be healthy. expanded the breath of services offered by the organization to included facilitation of survivor Discussion Circles for women of all backgrounds, publication of articles, training of professionals and caregivers, and a speaker’s bureau. With Ohio CASA – I just made it onto their weekly engagement list by being one of their top engagers 🎉

Meaning, "Engager" with my assigned maltreated youth, their family, service providers, Child Protective Services, and anyone else who can help my youth get what they need.

You can be a Court Appointed Special Advocate (Ohio CASA) for maltreated children too. Why not?

I heard you say you wanted to help your community, didn't I? 🙂

A legal way to protect your Home.

Fear of an abuser shouldn’t stop someone from voting or buying a home. Ohio’s Safe at Home program is helping survivors stay safe. See link below ⬇️

Yesterday, the State House was ELECTRIC!!! It was palpable. It was such a heart-warming and affirming space to be in. Heart-warming because survivors shared their positive experiences with advocates, SANEs, and service providers during one of the worst times in their lives. It was reaffirming for advocates, SANEs, and service providers to hear that the HEART work they do every day makes a huge difference in the daily lives of the survivors they serve. I also appreciated hearing from and speaking to our legislative leaders who vowed to continue their quest to change Ohio's antiquated laws that block the justice and assistance survivors and their children deserve, and from our Governor, who proclaimed April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Wonderfully written proclamation, by the way. Yes, yes, there is much more to do. But that's okay. Because collectively we HAVE and CAN move mountains. Whew! I'm fired up. How about you? What is going to be your contribution to this Movement? Think about it or write your thoughts as a Reply to give folks some ideas to do in their community. 🥰

We have to do better by children involved with foster care. It doesn't involve just them; it involves the next generation, too.

About half (49%) of one national sample of 1,093 youth ages 11 to 21 with child protective services contact had received any formal s*x education.
In the same study, 72 percent of 433 youth ages 14 to
18 who received s*x education about contraceptives/condoms knew where to access family planning services, compared to 46 percent of youth who did not receive this education.

Youth who had ever been pregnant or gotten someone else pregnant were less likely to have received s*x education than
youth who had never been pregnant or gotten someone else pregnant

Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and it is a reminder for all of us, especially adults and victim service professionals, that intimate partner violence can begin early.

According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center’s Teen Dating Violence Prevention Resources (2025 update), among people who have experienced intimate partner violence (s*xual or physical violence, and/or stalking), over 70% of women and over 60% of men first experienced it before age 25.

The same resource notes that one in four women who experienced intimate partner violence first experienced it before age 18.

It also reports that over 80% of women and men who have been r**ed say their first r**e occurred before age 25.

It also matters who is causing harm. Sexual violence is often committed by someone the survivor knows, and over 28% of girls who experienced s*xual violence before age 18 were r**ed by a current or former intimate partner.

These realities underscore why early intervention, accurate screening, and survivor-centered support are critical.

Teens deserve to be believed, taken seriously, and connected to help quickly, even when abuse is minimized as “young love” or “drama.”

Victims of any type of crime, including dating violence and intimate partner violence, can contact the VictimConnect Resource Center for support and referrals. Call 1-855-4-VICTIM (1-855-484-2846) or chat at victimconnect.org.

The group operated a human trafficking ring that forced women into prostitution at two illicit massage parlors in Warren: the Tiger Spa and Sunny Spa.
