More than 14,000 young people in Pierce County are not connected to school or a job.

That’s a problem.

Pierce County is putting $300,000 into skilled-trades training at Clover Park Technical College, helping more than 200 students get hands-on training and industry credentials.

This is what workforce development should look like.

Show people the opportunity.

Teach real skills.

Connect them to careers that can support a family.

And here’s the important part: these are skills that are going to be needed even as technology changes.

College is one path.

The skilled trades are another.

We need to make sure young people can see both.
