🐄 **Cow Tip Tuesday: Paying Yourself Isn’t Always a Business Expense**

You transferred money from your business account to your personal account. That means it counts as payroll or an expense…right?

Not necessarily!

For many business owners, that transfer is considered an **owner’s draw**. It reduces the owner’s equity in the business—but it does **not** reduce the profit shown on the profit and loss statement.

For example:

Your business earns $5,000 in profit, and you withdraw $2,000 for yourself.

Your business still earned **$5,000 in profit**. The $2,000 withdrawal simply moved some of that money from the business to you.

This distinction matters because incorrectly recording draws as business expenses can make your reports misleading and cause confusion at tax time.

The exact rules depend on how your business is structured, so make sure your payments are being categorized correctly.

Clean books = a clear picture of what your business is really earning. 🐄📊

🐄 **Cow Tip Tuesday: Don’t Let Your Invoices Grow Old Waiting for Payment**

An A/R aging report organizes unpaid customer invoices by how long they’ve been outstanding—typically:

✅ Current
⚠️ 1–30 days overdue
⚠️ 31–60 days overdue
🚨 61–90 days overdue
🚨 90+ days overdue

The longer an invoice remains unpaid, the harder it may become to collect. Meanwhile, your business has already completed the work or delivered the product—without receiving the cash needed to cover payroll, supplies, and other expenses.

Review your A/R aging report regularly and follow up early. A friendly reminder today may prevent a serious collection problem later.

**Revenue on paper doesn’t pay the bills. Collected revenue does.**

Need help keeping track of what your customers owe? Cash Cow Accounting can help you keep your receivables—and your cash flow—moving. 🐄💚

🐄 Cow Tip Tuesday: AR vs. AP — What’s the difference?

They sound annoyingly similar, but they mean opposite things.

Accounts Receivable (AR) = money owed TO your business.
You finished the job and sent a $2,000 invoice, but the customer hasn’t paid yet? That $2,000 is sitting in AR.

Accounts Payable (AP) = money your business owes.
A supplier sends you a $750 bill and you haven’t paid it yet? That $750 is sitting in AP.

An easy way to remember it:

💰 AR = money coming IN
💸 AP = money going OUT

Knowing both matters. A business can have $20,000 sitting in AR and still struggle to pay $10,000 in AP if customers aren’t paying fast enough.

And THAT is why “we had a great month!” and “why is the bank account so low?” can happen at the exact same time. 🐄

You’d rather be here. 🍿🎬

The books will still be there after the credits roll.

And if taking a couple hours off makes you nervous because you’re not sure what’s happening with the money while you’re gone… we should probably talk. 🐄

Clean books = calm mind.

🐄 Cow Tip Tuesday: “I made a profit… so where’s my money?”

Ever look at your Profit & Loss statement, see that your business made money, and then look at your bank account and think… Okay, but where is it?

Profit and cash aren’t the same thing.

You might have made a profit on paper, but some of that money could be tied up in unpaid customer invoices. You may have used cash to pay down a loan, buy equipment, or take an owner’s draw. And depending on how your books are kept, income and expenses don’t always hit your reports at the same time the money moves through your bank account.

That doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong. It just means your P&L is only one piece of the story.

Your P&L tells you whether your business is profitable.

Your balance sheet shows what your business owns, what it owes, and what’s left over.

Your cash flow statement helps explain where the actual cash went.

Good bookkeeping isn’t just knowing whether you made money. It’s being able to explain where that money went. 🐄
