-WHAT IS OZONE AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Here's a quick science lesson…Ozone (O3, a gas composed of three oxygen atoms) is naturally generated when atmospheric Oxygen (O2) rises to the stratosphere, and is exposed to the sun’s ultraviolet rays, forming a layer of protection commonly known as the ‘Ozone Layer’. Our advanced Ozone generating equipment mimics this natural process, converting the Oxygen (O2) present in atmospheric air into Ozone (O3).
Ozone is a highly effective natural steriliser that can inactivate practically any organic contaminant on contact. As it is a highly reactive gas, Ozone continually reverts back to its most stable form by releasing one of its atoms to turn back into Oxygen (from O3 to O2). As the additional Oxygen atom breaks free, it will oxidize any organic matter it touches, killing organic contaminants at a cellular level. Essentially, Ozone disrupts the cellular structure by rupturing the cell wall – a process referred to as ‘cell lysing’.
By intelligently controlling atmospheric Ozone concentration, we are able to safely decontaminate any given area, as the additional Oxygen atom in Ozone oxidizes and inactivates a broad spectrum of pathogens and odors.
Our sanitation process is highly effective for treating the air and surfaces in any area through the eradication of:
Bacteria
Viruses
Odors
Allergens
Mold – Fungus
VOC’s
-DOES OZONE KILL COVID-19 VIRUS?
Yes! There’s a lot of science and research behind it, but check out this summary from the article published on the National Institute of Health website; “The new SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19 emergency has imposed new disinfection and sanitation measures of work environments also to beauty and health professional workers and in this context ozone shows growing interest. Ozone has proven to be highly effective in killing bacteria, fungi, and molds and inactivating viruses both on the surfaces and suspended in the air.” *Link to full article here https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7595067/
-HOW DOES AN OZONE TREATMENT WORK?
Ozone can only be administered in a home when pets and people are not present. Although ozone is non chemical and safe to use, in its active form of O3 before it has turned back into pure oxygen it is a lung irritant.
The ozone operator uses a respirator when in contact with ozone and once the equipment is set up the operator leaves the area and starts the sanitation process. The Ozone diffuses into the area and engulfs all exposed surfaces and pe*****tes hidden areas and fabric items.
The Ozone rich atmosphere is sustained for a short period of time, typically less than one hour, during which time all bacteria and other unwanted elements are destroyed.
When the sanitation process is complete, Ozone rapidly reverts back into Oxygen.
-IS USING OZONE SAFE?
YES! Ozone sanitation has long and routinely been used in hospitals, schools, and airports and food storage facilities when clean air and odor control is vitally important.
Although the active O3 ozone is an irritant to lungs, it quickly sanitizes a space and reverts back to pure oxygen. With jus very simple procauctions ozone is entirely ECO friendly, chemical free and side effect free.
Imagine the possibilities created by safely harnessing the sanitizing power of ozone in gaseous form. As a gas, ozone is at its most effective. Ozone gas can fill areas very quickly, will pe*****te into places that are traditionally difficult to reach (including fabrics and upholstery) and will inactivate contaminants on contact.
As Ozone is a gas composed entirely of Oxygen, it leaves no chemical residue whatsoever.
At the end of the sanitation process, the only by-product remaining is fresh clean O2 air. When compared to traditional chemical sanitizing agents, Ozone would therefore seem the natural choice for any home or business looking to reduce the environmental footprint, time and labor requirement of their current sanitation processes.
-HOW LONG UNTIL I CAN GO BACK INTO MY HOME OR BUISNESS AFTER TREATMENT?
The best answer is to err on the safe side and give it a few hours of open windows and airing out your space to ensure your safety.
As you may guess, the answer varies with both strength of the treatment as well as the airflow in the room.
That being said, ozone has a short life and most experts agree that it will revert back to breathable oxygen in about 30 minutes.
-DOES OZONE REMOVE CIGARETTE SMOKE AND SMOKE SMELLS?
Yes. Ozone will oxidize the over 4000 chemicals that make up cigarette smoke and eliminate the lingering smell.
Cigarette and cigar odors tend to travel to every nook and cranny they can find.
And because of the tar residue that that is part of to***co smoke, it adheres to everything, especially carpets, drapes, and furniture.
That’s why cigarette and smoke odors seem so hard to get rid of and keep lingering on for years.
Ozone will travel in a similar path as cigarette smoke and break down the the molecules that are causing the odor, even the molecules that have glued their self to your furniture.
Automobiles that have been used by smokers that smoked inside their vehicles can have a very persistent third hand smoke presence.
Detailers use ozone to return a vehicle back to a new car smell that people love.
-DOES OZONE KILL BUGS AND BED BUGS?
Yes. Ozone will kill bugs when it is used but it is a temporary solution at best. It does not take the place of a regular exterminator or a plan to keep bugs from coming back.
Ozone is primarily used as an odor removal and air sanitation.
And though any bugs that get trapped in the area while the room is being treated with ozone will be killed. Once the ozone has dissipated, the bugs will be back. Most bugs will just run away while the room is being treated, and come back when the coast is clear.
- DOES OZONE KILL MOLD?
A Ozone generator will kill any exposed mold or fungus in the room it is operated in. Any airborne mold spores will be a goner.
But similar to the effect you get with insects is what you get with mold.
*If you have a problem with mold before you use the ozone generator, you will still have a problem afterwards. This is not a replacement for Mold remediation!
Ozone will only treat the symptoms.
It will not do any physical cleanup or identify and fix the original problem.
***However, if you have corrected the cause of the mold and done proper mold cleanup and remediation, the ozone will very effectively treat any remains spores and odor left on the spaces.
Nor will it travel through to the inside of the wall cavities, where a great deal of mold can be found.
Mold is primarily a moisture problem inside of the house or building. Until you find the source of the moisture and fix it, any type of cleaning is just going to be a temporary fix.
-WILL OZONE WORK ON CAT URINE?
The answer is mostly no. Cat urine typically gets deep down into the carpet underneath the floorboards. Ozone is effective on airborne pet smells and litter box odors, but will do little if the source of the smell is in carpeting or furniture.
Ozone is a topical oxidizer and doesn’t get underneath the carpet or inside the walls.
There are different oxidizer solutions you can put on cat urine if the problem is not too extreme.
But you should be prepared to rip the carpet out if you have a strong stench.
