🚨 A Friendly Reminder: We Transport Vehicles… NOT Humans! 😂 🚨

Today’s dispatch story had us laughing so hard we almost forgot we were working! 😂

We had a driver stuck in Montana, and I was working with a broker to get a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter relocated to Colorado.

Everything was set… contract signed… driver headed to pick it up.

Except when the driver arrived, the Sprinter was nowhere to be found. 🤦‍♀️

Then the van finally showed up… and suddenly we discovered there was one small detail we hadn’t accounted for:

The owner planned on going to Colorado WITH THE VAN. 😂

I had to get on FaceTime and explain, as politely as possible, that while we are happy to move his vehicle to its new owners in Colorado, we cannot transport him as part of the cargo. 🤣

So we made a new plan!

The driver helped him get his belongings out of the van, we found him a bus ticket to Colorado, and I even helped arrange an Uber to get him to the Walmart in Bozeman where he could catch his bus the next morning.

Problem solved. Vehicle headed to Colorado. Human headed to Colorado. Everybody wins. 😂🙌

And once again, Grindstone Freight Lines learned a very important lesson:

WE MOVE FREIGHT.
WE MOVE VEHICLES.
WE DO NOT MOVE PEOPLE. 😂😂

Although, at this point, I may need to add that disclaimer to our dispatcher handbook!

🇺🇸🚛 CELEBRATING 90 DAYS OF AUTHORITY! 🚛🇺🇸

Today is a special milestone for First in Freight, LLC — they have officially reached 90 days of operating authority!

Irving was our second carrier when Grindstone Freight Lines was just getting started, so we’ve had the privilege of being there for a lot of this journey from the beginning.

There are a lot of things I could say about Irving, but one of the things that stands out to me the most is his attitude.

Irving deals with serious back pain, yet somehow, every time I talk to him, he is positive. He looks for the good in things. He keeps pushing forward. He doesn’t let the hard days define him.

He’s also not afraid of hard work. If a load needs to be tarped, he’ll tarp it. If an opportunity takes him away from home and his family, he’s willing to make that sacrifice. He’s willing to go where we believe the opportunities are, even when the market doesn’t always cooperate the way we hoped it would.

And behind every great driver is often someone helping keep things running behind the scenes. Madison deserves a huge shoutout, too! ❤️

She is one of the fastest communicators when we need a COI, NOA, or other paperwork. If we ask for something, Madison is on it. That kind of communication is invaluable in this business.

Then last week, Irving had another accomplishment worth celebrating — he successfully passed a Level 1 inspection! 👏

For a newer carrier, that’s something to be proud of. It can also help open additional opportunities with brokers and customers who have stricter carrier requirements.

But today, we’re celebrating more than just a number.

We’re celebrating 90 days of perseverance, hard work, sacrifice, communication, and continuing to move forward — even when things don’t always go according to plan.

Irving and Madison, thank you for trusting Grindstone, for being one of our very first carriers, and for allowing us to be part of your journey.

Congratulations on 90 days of authority! 🎉

🚨 LET’S TALK ABOUT DIESEL. 🚨

Diesel prices go up.
Maintenance costs go up.
Insurance goes up.
Tires go up.
Everything it takes to keep a truck on the road keeps getting more expensive.

But somehow… the rate on the load doesn’t seem to go up with it.

Our drivers are out here paying the fuel bill, putting miles on their equipment, paying for repairs, carrying the insurance, and taking on all the risk.

Yet we’re still seeing loads posted at rates that don’t make sense once you factor in the REAL cost of running a truck.

And here’s the thing:

A higher fuel price isn’t just a higher fuel bill.

It affects the entire cost of operating that truck.

Drivers and carriers shouldn’t have to run themselves into the ground just to say they stayed busy.

📢 Brokers — carriers need you to recognize the numbers, too.

If the cost of doing business increases, the rate needs to reflect it.

And to our drivers and carriers:

Know your numbers. Know your cost per mile. And don’t be afraid to say NO to freight that doesn’t make financial sense.

Keeping a truck moving isn’t the same thing as making money.

At Grindstone Freight Lines, we’re not interested in chasing loads just to keep the wheels turning.

We’re interested in finding freight that makes sense for the driver, the truck, and the business.

Many people assume a full load is always the highest-paying option. That’s not always the case.

When planned correctly, multiple partial loads can often generate more revenue than a single full load while keeping your truck moving efficiently.

The key is finding loads that:
✅ Travel in the same direction
✅ Fit your available deck space and weight
✅ Deliver on a schedule that makes sense

It’s like putting together the pieces of a puzzle. When everything fits, you can increase your revenue without adding unnecessary miles.
