Iāve been a little quiet here lately.
Life has been full, and my family has needed my attention. Weāre navigating one of those seasons of life that many of us will eventually faceāhelping care for an aging parent.
Itās one of the hardest seasons Iāve experienced, for so many reasons.
Iām learning that caring for an aging parent isnāt just about helping with appointments, medications, and day-to-day needs. Itās also about being their advocate.
Itās about asking questions.
Speaking up when something doesnāt seem right.
Being willing to ask, āCould we look into this further?ā
Making sure concerns are heard and that important questions arenāt overlooked.
The reality is that the healthcare system is complicated, and even with wonderful healthcare professionals, things can sometimes be missed. Tests donāt always get ordered. Symptoms can be overlooked. Communication doesnāt always happen the way it should.
Iāve learned that you canāt be afraid to respectfully speak up when youāre advocating for someone you love.
At the same time, Iām reminded of why I talk so much about strength and health here.
We spend years working on our own strength, mobility, balance, and overall healthāand then life reminds us that strength isnāt only about what happens in the gym.
Sometimes strength is showing up.
Sometimes itās making the difficult phone call.
Sometimes itās asking the hard question.
Sometimes itās sitting beside someone you love and making sure their voice is heard.
This is a hard season, and I know so many of you are navigating something similar with parents, spouses, or loved ones.
Iām not sure when Iāll be back to posting regularly, but I wanted to say hello and share a little of whatās been on my heart.
Take care of yourselves. And if youāre caring for someone you love, remember to take care of yourself, too. ā¤ļø
