Starting Out in Your Career: Lessons from Working with Interns

At Swing Strategies, we’ve had the privilege of working with more than 100 interns over the years in public affairs and political consulting—many of whom have gone on to incredible careers. Some are now elected officials, leading think tanks, or working for Fortune 100 companies. Others have taken different paths—becoming teachers, restaurant managers, or dedicated parents.

Last week, Tom Ross spoke on a panel for Sacramento State’s internship program. It was a wonderful reminder of how pivotal those early career experiences can be. At Swing Strategies, we believe that everyone deserves to operate at their highest frequency. If public relations, politics, or media sparks your passion, we hope to help you find your path—be it with us or beyond. And if you decide to pivot to a completely different field, that’s just as exciting. The ultimate goal is growth, learning, and crafting a career that’s right for you.

As part of the Sacramento Semester Program, Dylan attends California State University, San Marcos, and is a third-year pursuing his degree in Political Science. As a fellow, Dylan’s role is vital in supporting Account Executives and conducting research, while getting hands-on client experience.

BREAKING NEWS: With only 12 days until the election, California's turnout is roughly 13% with nearly 2.9 million ballots returned.

Yesterday, the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) released findings from their latest statewide "Californians and Their Government" survey, which highlights voter preferences for candidates in the presidential, Senate, and House races as well as the statewide ballot measures.

With voter contact efforts in full swing, we are beginning to get a clearer picture of how voters view each of the measures as they fill out and return their ballots.
