I remember being around 23 years old when my parents tried to talk me into being a correctional officer. They were both successful correctional officers, making very good money to be able to provide for their families. And coming from a family of many government workers, one of the biggest focuses were “the benefits” (aka medical insurance and retirement).
I knew that wasn’t me. My non-conforming personality craved for something more. Even though I didn't specifically know what that was at the time.
My response: “I definitely don’t wanna do that. I am way more business minded.”
And now I'm here: a business owner and a homeschooling mom, three things I never thought I would be, and still have the good "benefits". Every day I get to use my God given talents to help people in a way that fuels me and makes me excited to get up in the morning and work.
That's want I want for my family, my friends and all the people I don't know. To not be afraid of the unknown, but embrace it.
Looking back, I don't regret my choices at all. If I had taken a different route, I would have missed out on the joy, the growth, and the life I now lead. Sure, there were tough times, sleepless nights, and sometimes even a tear or two, but I wouldn't exchange any part of my journey for a “safer” option.
So, it's your life. Live it authentically. Be brave. Dare to dream and then chase that dream with all your heart.
Here's to living authentically, courageously, and joyfully! 🥂💪🏽🌟
