Well, given Elon Musk’s contempt for the federal consistency review process in regulating Space X launches from Vandenberg, we knew this was coming.
Despite the many grievances raised by Coastal Commission practices (at least some of them legitimate), having NO Coastal Commission is untenable for California’s future, however beneficial Musk might find it.

While discussions are still ongoing over precise conditions for federal assistance, Trump aide Ric Grenell said the administration is looking closely at the California Coastal Commission.

Speaking of upholding the Coastal Act, hooray for the newly minted coastal resource protectors of Malibu’s Broad Beach!

Come on, folks: you can’t do stuff in the coastal zone without a permit, and once you’ve accepted the permit it should be obvious that you are legally compelled to comply with that permit's conditions of approval no matter who you are. Seriously.

Another example of iconic coastal access gems under attack by rise in sea level – and unlikely to survive California coastal management’s “managed retreat” response. (The story doesn’t point out that Nixon’s “gift” of this spot wasn’t exactly free either: it seems to have come attached to a nuclear power plant.)

The future remains uncertain for the surf spots and nearby trails and campgrounds, as lease negotiations are underway between the state and Department of Navy.
