Tucker is a senior at Freeland High School, and I swear it was just yesterday I was photographing him sitting in the branch of a tree at Dow Gardens (in reality, it was over decade ago). Seeing these kids grow up is one of the wildest, greatest gifts of this job.

We met at Bay City State Park late last fall and though it was freezing cold that night, we made the most of it…

🌿 A stroll along the scenic boardwalk
🌊Beach shots with the cold Lake Huron breeze doing its thing
🏀 A quick switch in the parking lot to get some shots with his basketball and baseball— things this athlete has pursued during his high school years

There was something about this senior session that captured what it’s like to stand on that edge—one foot in adolescence, the other stepping into adulthood. Tucker handled this shoot like a pro.

So grateful this family continues to trust me with their milestones. What an honor to document this season ❤️

A few months ago, I met this family outside for a maternity session. The photos are in a previous post: Autumn glowing, Austin steady and calm. And Clark—their full-throttle toddler, who ripped through the yard in his little Jeep, disappearing into the woods like he had a meeting with the squirrels. Dirt on his feet. Wind in his hair. Having the absolute time of his life while his grandma stood on the perimeter, watchful and ready.

A few weeks later, I walked into a different scene. Into the home this time. Quieter, slower. A newborn tucked into the center.

Clark was still adventure in human form. But it was so beautiful to hear him say her name in his little two-year-old voice, see him pause long enough to kiss her head, watch him repeatedly come back to her, and witness his parents show him how to be gentle. There was constant movement and curiosity and reminders, like any parents caring for a newborn while keeping up with a two-year-old who still wants to explore the world at top speed.

Just three weeks between sessions—from a family of 3 preparing for something new surrounded by trees and open sky, to a family of 4 settling into new routines and learning a whole new way of life.

Clark may always prefer the driver’s seat, but I have a feeling he’s going to love having a sidekick for all of his wild adventures. 💖
