Books have been written about making your bed. Speeches have been given about it. For me, it started in the 3rd grade.
My mother ran across front yards, dodging sprinklers, to chase down my school bus. She flagged the driver, climbed on, and let me have it in front of everyone.
I had not made my bed.
I shuffled off that bus, sprinted home, and finished the job. Luckily for me, she knew the driver personally.
Since that day, I have made my bed nearly every morning. Not because I understood the principle back then. Because the lesson got burned in.
What I did not know at the time was this, that one small act was building something bigger.
One completed task before the world starts pulling at you.
One win before the chaos.
One decision that says, I am in control of this day.
It sets the tone.
It increases your chances of having a good day.
And if the day does not go your way, you still come home to a freshly made bed. That small win from the morning is still there waiting for you. It increases your chances of a good night’s sleep and a better day tomorrow.
Making your bed will not change your life.
But the discipline behind it will.
