I have had a ten year love affair with Snow Hill. Ten years ago, when we moved here, my first day trip was to Snow Hill. I fell in love, the moment I crossed the bridge over the Pocomoke River.

At that time, its downtown was a bit sad, full of empty store fronts. But now Green Street has a new vibrancy with many new businesses.

One of the newer welcome additions is Hang 10, a restaurant/bar serving Pacific Island cuisine. I like Snow Hill's understated down home charm, but the increased variety and quality of the Green Streets food corridor make Snow Hill all the better place to visit.

It is nice to have a new cuisine option, they do a pretty good huli huli chicken. But having said that, I cannot wait to try their mac and cheese bowl. Maybe on some cold rainy fall day, I'll stop by for a comfy bowl of mac and cheese.

Delmarva is surrounded by water and marsh. Consequently, from the first human settlement bounty from the sea and bay has defined our region. Delmarva is rightly famous for its bay oysters, crabs, rockfish, and big game fish.

Therefore, it should not come as a surprise that we are also famous for our aquatic cuisine. Which means, these past two years, I have eaten a great deal of sea food at our renowned seafood restaurants.

I have just updated my list of best seafood restaurants. I have added three new restaurants over the last month.

In the course of my travels there are a number of dishes that are memorable:
Fisherman's Stew: Shark, Ocean City
Cream of Crab Soup: SoBo's, Salisbury
Blackened Flounder: Chesapeake Landing, St Michaels
Fish Sandwich, Shrimp Boat, Ocean City
Mussels in Saffron: Mogan's, Salisbury

I have been on a mission for two years to find the best restaurants on the Delmarva. In that time I have visited 143 restaurants. We are blessed here to have many good restaurants, but truly excellent restaurants are far and few between.

I had the opportunity to go to Oyster & Scales, and in my view, this is one of the best restaurants on Delmarva. This restaurant has it all, great views, excellent service, salubrious atmosphere, and innovative menu, and most importantly excellent food.

In the summer, I find it just too hot to hike in our excellent state and federal parks. So, I walk our smaller municipal parks that are both shorter and usually include restaurants, bars, and shops where I can escape the heat.

Which brings me to Back Creek Park on Tilghman Island. Though the trail is short, it takes you past marina's bay views, marshland, and majestic parkland trees. Better yet, there is nice restaurant right at the beginning of the trail.

I started my Delmarva blog two years ago today. In that time I have visited over 150 restaurants and bars, and eaten over 250 dishes.

We are blessed to have many good restaurants on Delmarva, and a few that are truly excellent. But when I rate restaurants I include several criteria, it is not just about the food.

So, in celebration of the second anniversary of my journey, I decided to review the 250+ dishes/drinks I have consumed over the past two years and compile (on a new page) those that were truly memorable. Those dishes/drinks that truly stood above the rest.

In the end, after two years, there are only 19 that I would classify as exceptional. I have compiled them all on a single page. AS I continue my journey, I will add to this page memorable dishes/drinks as they occur.

When I do come across a memorable dish I will include a link on that post to this page.

My blog is all about showcasing the beauty of this area and celebrating our culture, our history, and our local businesses. The Ocean Princess Wine Tour hits all of my buttons. The business is owned by local Victor Bunting, the forth generation of his family to own a fishing boat. The Bunting family business is as old a Ocean City itself, stretching back to the 1890s.

Bunting has modernized the family business to reflect the demands of the modern tourist. His wine tours showcase only local wineries. Highlighting a growing and successful new industry on the Delmarva.

The tour itself showcases everything that makes this area special, our beaches, our bays, our marine life, our wild ponies, and the vibrant nightlife of Ocean City.

It is the entire peninsula wrapped up in a single tour.

I suppose you could be forgiven for assuming that a museum about Mermaids was silly. You could be forgiven, but you would be wrong.

I recently visited the Mermaid Museum in Berlin and Alyssa Maloof, once again, has created a museum that is delightfully whimsical, highly imaginative, and a well researched and curated recounting of the myth of mermaids and their place across culture and time. What is more, it is a lot of fun. What more can you ask of a museum than that?

I have created a new page on my blog: Delmarva's Best Tours and Excursions.

This area is the summer playground of three large East Coast urban areas: Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington. Our beaches, ocean, bays, marshes, historic villages, and food culture make this a prime location for organized tours.

I have just started my journey down this path. So be patient, while I build my database. Tours tend to be time consuming and pricey. So it is going to take me a while to build an extensive list of tour reviews.

Twenty years ago, William Layton took a chance on planting a vineyard in a most unlikely place, the middle of his grain fields. When I moved here ten years ago, I wasn't impressed with his wines. But there is a saying in the wine industry, "the older the vine, the better the wine." Nearly twenty years has past since he planted those first vines.

I recently returned to the Layton vineyard, the combination of a beautiful summer's day, the sweeping vistas of vineyard and field, the charming tasting room, and their delightfully cheerful and approachable wines made for a perfect way to spend a lazy summer's afternoon.

Layton took a chance and we are all the better for it.

I am not one for wallowing in nostalgia. The past isn't nearly as good as we remember it. But I do enjoy eating breakfast at One if by Land Two if by Sea on Tilghman Island. It reminds me of the old time New England soda fountains of my childhood. All the better that Chef Henry Miller sure knows how to make an excellent corned beef hash.
