I’m gen Z, I’m not working for you. don’t ask me to work.
I ran my business fruitfully for 3 years raising above the household median income for the area, but every time I made more money, or got more clients interest rates or houses went up by 3x. Thus it wasn’t fruitful. I’m not working if I can’t buy a less than median house in the place I work. I have a MBA and 7 years experience if that doesn’t get you a house 150k less than median than there is no point to work. 🤷 I’ll just live in my trailer and fly.
Here’s the math:
Median home price in salt lake: $559,000
Minus $150k
400k house (this means a house 27% cheaper than the median house)
To afford just the house with no other debt, no student loans, no car payment, no children, no schooling, no other debt payments nothing but a house is still an income of: $95,110 a year.
You need to make 95k a year to own a home that costs 25% less than median sale price…. (We are not talking crazy nice houses in good areas I’m saying 25% less than average house)
I got 3 offers to be controller/CFO of 20-30million dollar companies and not one paid even within 10k of the amount above.
I’m giving salt lake the next 6 months if I can’t tend fruitful labor here that gets me to owning less than average property then I will leave.
An apartment on kalvin square in Budapest sounds great,
Or a hiker lodge outside Kobe.
-welcome to gen Z, if we can’t have the American dream, we’re not working. It’s not a generation thing. It’s a math thing.
Ending on a positive:
-the birds are fed and I get to fly- I couldn’t ask for more. Europe in October!!!!
