Instead of another ā€œkinda chicā€ trend, let’s talk about what’s actually badass and brave. šŸ¤

Going to therapy. Asking for help. Talking about your triggers. Admitting you don’t have it all together. Doing the hard work of healing so your kids don’t have to. Healing at your own pace. Not apologizing for doing what you need to, to heal. Choosing to keep going, even when you really don’t want to.

Healing isn’t always pretty, and it definitely isn’t easy. But choosing to face yourself, your pain, and your mental health takes a kind of courage that deserves to be celebrated.

So maybe this is what we call chic now: doing the work, choosing yourself, and not giving up. šŸ¤

What’s one brave thing you’ve done for yourself and your healing?

I can talk about it now.

I can put words to it.
I can tell the story.
I can explain what happened.

But sometimes I have to remind myself…

The little girl who lived through it didn’t know how it would end.

She didn’t know if she was going to walk out of that room.
She didn’t know if anyone was coming to save her.
She didn’t know that one day she would have a voice strong enough to tell the truth.

She only knew fear.

She knew the moment his eyes changed.
When the room felt different.
When every part of her body screamed that something was wrong.
When survival became the only thing that mattered.

People hear stories like mine and often only see the ending.

They see the survivor.
The healing.
The strength.
The voice.

What they don’t always see is the terrified little girl who carried something no child should ever have had to carry.

I can talk about it now because I survived it.

But surviving doesn’t mean my body forgot.

Healing has meant learning how to comfort the parts of me that are still scared.
The parts that remember.
The parts that still expect danger.

So when fear comes back, I remind myself…

I’m not that little girl trapped in abuse anymore.

I’m the woman who survived her.

And I’ll spend the rest of my life reminding her that she’s finally safe. šŸ–¤

** Have you ever felt like your body was still protecting you from a past you’ve already survived? If so, you’re not alone. ā¤ļø

Today I had my first session with a new trauma therapist.

If I’m being honest… I’m anxious. I’m scared. My stomach is in knots.

Healing has been a huge part of my life since I was a teenager, but I haven’t worked with a dedicated trauma therapist since I was 17. I’ve done so much work over the years, yet I know there are still places inside me that deserve compassion, attention, and healing.

Walking back into trauma therapy feels like choosing to face the parts of my story I’ve spent years surviving instead of fully processing. That’s terrifying.

But I’ve learned something over the years: healing rarely asks us to stay comfortable. It asks us to be courageous.

So today, I’m choosing courage.

I’m sure this journey will bring up a lot, and I know there will probably be hard days ahead. But if there’s one thing I’ve proven to myself, it’s that I can do hard things.

I’ll be starting EMDR with her for the first time after a couple sessions so if you’ve been through EMDR, I’d genuinely love to hear your experience. Was there anything you wish you had known before you started? Any advice or encouragement would mean so much to me. šŸ’›
