We are living through one of the most historic times in WNC’s modern history. Devastation, destruction, and unimaginable conditions have struck our beloved mountains due to Tropical Storm Helene. However, through it all, Saluda folks have displayed their resilience, kindness, compassion, and generosity. Many unimaginable images, videos, and stories have been shared over the last few weeks, but more often than not, they focused on the positive featuring incredible acts of kindness and amazing acts of heroism. As the historic committee for Saluda, we wish to document and share Saluda’s history for posterity's sake. We want to hear your stories, and thoughts and collect your images. The Historic Saluda Committee has a strong foundation of oral history and digital archive collections. With great appreciation and humbleness, we asking that you share with us your stories and images. Write your stories down or record them. Almost everyone has a video feature on their smartphone camera or a voice recorder app. Just push the record button and tell your story. If you need help, have someone film it for you. *Here are some ideas as to how to share them with us:
1. For best results, upload videos, audio, pictures, and written stories to Google Drive, Dropbox, or a similar program and share them with us at [email protected]. You may request that we create a folder for you in our Google Drive where you can upload.
2. Email them to us at [email protected].
3. Put it on a flash drive. Drop it off at the Saluda Library or Saluda City Hall. Be sure to put our name on it, Historic Saluda Committee, or share it with us in person by giving it to one of our committee members or share it at one of our meetings. We meet the 2nd Friday of every month at the library unless otherwise notified.
4. You may request for us to record your story ourselves with our equipment. There will be an opportunity in the future for interviews. Stay tuned.
*Please remember when sharing that you identify yourself and the people involved. Make sure that you have permission to share.
