The energy was palpable.

I was heading home on a flight ✈️ from some energizing work with the City of Carbondale Government in Illinois.

The Southwest Airlines attendant made the announcement that military passengers could line up for their flight to .

Check out the video below ⬇️ - about 60 recruits lined up.

😳 You could feel the anticipation
🙏 They wore their hope for a new life and a fresh start on their sleeves
😓 They were a bit somber - basic training is gonna be hard
💇‍♂️ And then there was the hair!

When I chatted with them, offering to braid their long hair one more time, they laughed with me and let out some of that nervousness.

"Why waste $27 on a haircut when I know it's gonna be cut?"

The intentionality.

There must be a thousand intentional decisions that each of them have made to get them here.

Of course that is true for all of us, isn't it. Or is it?

The speed of life is so fast that sometimes we are caught up in the current of it all, losing the strength to be a little more intentional.

New beginnings are so powerful.

That may be a beginning of:

🤩 A new role
💡 A new project
⌚️ A goal
👥 A new relationship

Your intentionality will help you be what you need to be.

Your intentionality will help that experience be what it needs to be.

😲 Did you know that approximately 85-90% of recruits in basic training pass?

Whatever you're starting will undoubtedly be daunting. The chances of success are astronomically high when you're intentional.

Lean into it.

It's been decades since I was in the Toronto Airport. As airports go, its reputation is not great.

I was curious to see how they have been trying to improve the flow of people through the airport.

Check this out - traffic lines.

🚗 Passenger cars on the left

For the most part, people figured it out.

In part, encouraged by the fast moving passenger cars.

Needs meet visual cues.

I'm always curious about leaders choose to organize the chaos.

Here is the Ottawa airport. They have clearly identified "lanes" to help people move seamlessly.

🏎️. Lanes for power vehicles
🚶 Lanes for walkers

Sometimes people respected the designations. Sometimes they didn't. I surmise it's more out of not knowing than intention.

Over time, and consistency, the norms will become habit.

I recently had a girl trip to St. John's, Newfoundland.

Of the many things I loved about the trip, I was enamoured with Jelly Bean Row.

In part, it was the colors.

Deeper than that is the way the community embraces the colors of Jelly Bean Row, including painting the concept on the electrical boxes (smaller image).

There isn't just one Jelly Bean Row - there are blocks scattered all over St. John's with these delightful colors.

These colors have become part of the community. In part, it's how the community expresses its resilience and personality.

If someone were to go to your community, your company, your home, how would they see you expressing your culture?

The reviews said that the location of our AirBB was dangerous.

Some felt unsafe.

Others suggested we not reserve this spot. 🏚️

In many ways, I see the parallels between graffiti and tattoos. They are both an expression of oneself. 🙇‍♂️

Are there outliers? Of course. There always are outlier, regardless of the topic.

I am surprised when I work with organizations that require employees to hide tattoos rather than educate their clients.

I was surprised when so many of the reviews for this AirBB in St. John's, Newfoundland, shied away from this location.

Turns out it was exceptionally safe. My luck I suppose as others may have taken our reservation if it weren't for the reviews. 🤷‍♀️
