cuz its just polished up compliance
When you are in the room people do and say the things you want them to.

But as soon as you leave the room they go back to what they prefer.

Now, TRUST is really what we want.
When you have cultivated trust with the crew, they trust the change you introduce, they trust that the change will benefit them as individuals as much as it will benefit the business objective.

The only way I know how to do this trust thing is to focus on serving the person in front of me.
Its way more fun than writing people up for non compliance😉

Telling a foreman to plan better does not help them plan better.
Teaching them the make or brake elements of an actionable plan does help them plan better.

Even though I didnt appreciate the sink or swim method, it helped me identify all the trip hazards in building an effective plan.

One of those is being explicit about the tools, materials, information, and equipment needed to execute the work.

Best practices have killed many great ideas because them best practices are pulled from things that have been done over and over.

But that thing you got in you hasnt been done before, so you gotta be the case study.

Will it be easier, probably not. But thats the point.

they have other things going on in their life
so when you’re rolling out your thing, you best be ready to put in 5 times the work

Its gonna feel desperate
Its gonna feel like wasted time

Because they are interested, you are offering value, and we gotta leave things better than we found them.

From the outside Leadership looks like a grand mission and Leaders either get it right or wrong.
But Leading is Hard! It will test you to your bones and the 2 things that kicked me in the face most are:

- Dealing with Rejection
- Adjusting my pace aka going a million times slower than I want to go

I used to think "once I get the title, the resistance will stop" I was wrong�
and I made it worse cuz I wanted to go at hyper speed, but the team had a different gear in mind.

Foremen have a huge responsibility, their ability to plan the work and keep the work rolling is a make or break experience for all stakeholders on a project.

But everyone else has some responsibility around the plan. If Project Managers and Superintendents arent clearing the way for them, they best not be hating on the foremen.
