What 30 Years in Branding Taught Me That Most Companies Still Get Wrong
Most people think branding is about logos, colors, and campaigns.
It’s not.
After 30 years building a firm, working with teams at every level, and watching how companies actually operate, I can tell you this. Branding lives in the experience. It lives in the environment. It lives in how people treat each other when no one is watching.
The problem is most organizations separate these things.
Marketing works on messaging. Operations focuses on ex*****on. Leadership talks about vision. And somewhere in the middle, the actual experience gets lost.
That gap is where brands fail. And it’s also where the real opportunity is.
I’ve spent most of my career in that gap. Not just building brands, but shaping environments and experiences that people can feel the moment they walk into a space.
You can see it in a sports arena before a game starts. You can feel it in how a customer is greeted. You can sense it in whether a space was designed with intention or just assembled to function.
It’s never just one thing. It’s everything working together.
Or not.
I’m writing this as I close one chapter and step into another. After 30 years running my own firm, I’m taking everything I’ve learned and looking at it through a different lens.
What actually works.
What doesn’t.
And why so many organizations still miss it.
That’s what you’ll find here.
