I've had a lot of people ask me what it is like having a child with type 1 diabetes. Let me open everyone's eyes right now to the financial side so you can see. Here in the United States we have to pay for insurance and in our situation we pay $1000 a month for medical insurance for our family. Now every three months we have to pay for his dexcom $500. We also have to pay $75 every three months for his insulin. Then we have to pay $75 for a specialty appointment every three months. Finally we have to pay $900 for the first three months, $600 for the second three months, and $200 for the last six months of the year for his pump supplies so let's do the math for the year...

$1000/ month = $12,000
$500/3 months= $2000
$75/ 3 months= $225
$75/ 3 months=$225
$1700 for the pump supplies

That's a grand total of $16150 that's not including the alcohol swabs and all the little supplies he needs.

Today is Joe Cantu and my 17th anniversary we have been together for a long time and we've only grown stronger in our relationship every year. I love you through thick and thin Joey and I can't tell you how much I appreciate everything you do for our boys and me.
