TWO FOR TUESDAY: Here are two questions I like to ask about teamwork when interviewing for a leadership position. These questions allow for you to gauge how someone manages up, down and at a peer level (aka sideways). These days people in leadership position have to be able to do all three. I like to go for the trifecta and find a winner (a really good fit and someone who can do it all). If you look hard enough, you can find the right candidate. Don't settle.

Question 1. What's your strategy in building relationships with your team and your peers? What about your relationship management style is successful in building bridges with others, whether it is at a peer level of a supervisor level? How do you measure your success?

Question 2. What do you look for when you build a team? Give me an example of how you have built consensus with your team. What would your supervisor say about your ability to manage a team? What would your subordinates say about your management of the team?

P.S. Notice each question had more than one question associated with it? I like to add questions on to my initial questions, so I included those for you as well. Happy interviewing!

Keep in mind that some employers with lengthy qualifications statements on job postings find applicants strong in all areas. Do not get discouraged if you do not meet all of the specified requirements, just be sure to emphasize your strengths in your resume and cover letter.

Motivation Monday: Keep your eye on the prize! Sometimes you have to change your approach to get results. Working on your resume takes time and effort. A well put together resume takes a lot longer than you think. Trust me in this one!
