Kinda chic to make a difference for a living.

Kinda chic to help nonprofits find funding.

Kinda chic to know not every grant is your grant.

Kinda chic to build stronger nonprofits.

Kinda chic to help small businesses compete for big opportunities.

For us, these aren't just services. They're different ways we get to support the organizations and people doing important work in their communities.

Helping them become stronger, find the right opportunities, and keep moving their missions forward?

That’s our kinda chic.

Before you pursue an RFP, score the opportunity.

A strong bid/no-bid review examines more than whether your business provides the requested service. It also considers your eligibility, experience, staffing, finances, compliance requirements, timeline, and competitive position.

Save this scorecard for the next opportunity that lands in your inbox.

If several answers are “no” or “not yet,” pause before writing. The smartest decision may be to ask questions, secure a partner, strengthen your readiness—or pass.

Which of these eight areas is most often overlooked?

Not every contract is the right contract for your business.

Before pursuing an opportunity, look beyond the dollar amount and ask:

✅ Does the full scope align with our experience?
✅ Do we have the team and resources to deliver?
✅ Can we manage the upfront costs and payment timeline?
✅ Are we prepared to meet every requirement and deadline?

Winning the wrong contract at the wrong time can strain your team, disrupt operations, and create serious financial challenges.

In this clip, Dr. Arlene Siller explains why businesses must be strategic about the opportunities they pursue. The goal is not to bid on everything—it is to pursue contracts your business is prepared to win and successfully deliver.

How do you decide whether an opportunity is the right fit for your business?

A recent client came to us with insurance already in place — but the coverage limit fell well short of what a specific RFP required.

This is a common and costly gap: business owners assume their existing coverage clears procurement's bar, when RFP-specific insurance minimums are frequently set well above standard business policies.

Our readiness reviews check insurance, bonding, and financial capacity against the actual solicitation requirements before submission, not after award. In this case, the client confirmed the cost to raise his limit was manageable and moved forward with full clarity on what winning would require.

Compliance readiness isn't a formality. It's the difference between a proposal that can honor its commitments and one that creates risk the moment it's awarded.

If you don't know what a specific RFP is actually requiring of you, that's exactly where we come in.

Another funding success to celebrate! 🎉

A recent Ascend Nonprofit & Business Solutions® LLC client was awarded $150,000 through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) Continuation Grant to support Out-of-School Time programming.

Every successful grant award starts long before the application is submitted. It begins with a strong strategy, organizational readiness, compelling narratives, and a clear understanding of what funders are looking for.

At Ascend NBS, we're proud to help nonprofits and mission-driven organizations strengthen their funding strategies and position themselves for long-term success. Every award is another reminder that preparation matters.

If your organization is preparing for upcoming grant opportunities or wants to build a stronger grant development strategy, we'd love to explore how we can support your goals.

One original. Five photocopies. Mailed and received by 2 PM sharp.
That was a real proposal requirement we dealt with — in 2026. One ice storm once cost us a submission that arrived a day late and went straight in the trash.
Small businesses lose real revenue to processes like this every day. So we want to hear from you 👇

If you could change ONE thing about government procurement, what would it be?

Digital submissions only
Simpler requirements
Faster award decisions
Clearer communication

Drop your procurement horror story in the comments — we've probably lived it too.
