I love this!!

Astronauts no longer need to wait months for replacement parts or new tools to arrive. With 3D printers on board the International Space Station, NASA can send digital blueprints directly to the crew via email. The astronauts then print the needed items in a matter of hours.

This technology represents a major shift in how space missions are supported. Instead of launching every possible spare part, the station can produce what it needs as issues arise. This flexibility is essential for long‑duration missions, where resupply is limited and repairs must be swift.

The 3D printer uses a filament that can be recycled into new objects, reducing waste. The technology is also being tested for printing with local materials, such as lunar regolith, for future missions to the Moon and Mars.

A blueprint that arrives by email. A tool that is created in space, not sent from Earth. 🔧📡🖨️😮
